In Chinese medicine, lavender (xun yi cao) is the synthesis of polar opposites: red (hot) and blue (cold) creates a violet color, symbolizing the psychospiritual connection with all things that is important for the Shen (spirit of the heart).
Practically speaking, lavender dispels pathogens and fights infections, and can be used for applications like genitourinary and respiratory infections, cough, asthma, bronchitis, and whooping cough. It also calms and frees the spirit, helping to break unwanted habits, and treating emotional symptoms like irritability, loss of concentration, anxiety, depression, overwhelm, frustration, and self-consciousness.
It can benefit the heart qi, liver qi, tonify the yin, helping with such varied ailments as insomnia, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, muscle spasm, headache, constipation, menstrual pain, animal and insect bites, and parasites.
