and let me guess…it wasn’t until you were an adult 👀

Here’s the thing…

We learned that ADHD symptoms need to be present when your child is younger (and it used to be 7 years or younger).

But a lot of parents I worked with thought the signs and symptoms of ADHD were just…normal.

Or their child did alright until they were in middle school and it became even more noticeable.

So if you feel like parenting is just really tough and you’re not sure if something else is going on, here’s your sign to connect with your pediatrician or a psychologist to see if it’s something more 🫶

how many fidgets do you need in your office to be considered cool?

I know this one might be a little controversial 👀

I think we’ve gotten so caught up in naming parenting styles that we’ve lost sight of something more important: what does the research actually tell us about effective parenting?

And what does it tell us about ADHD parenting?

What strategies and tools are actually the ones that work for ADHD?

I find that all these terms just make it even more confusing for parents.

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments about these different parenting styles.

And if you want to hear my thoughts in even more detail, comment NEWSLETTER and I’ll send you the link to join my weekly ADHD parenting newsletter.

And no, rewards don’t “kill motivation.”

👉 They get to watch TV AFTER homework is done
👉 Access to their phone once they’re out of bed

Your child can know exactly what they’re supposed to do and still struggle to get started.

For ADHD brains, rewards can help bridge that gap.

So if you use rewards with your ADHD child, you are not doing it wrong.

And if your rewards aren’t working, you may just need to learn the right way to use them for ADHD brains.

That’s exactly what I teach inside Connected & Practical Parenting.

Stop saying that the solution is to just be harsher and use more severe consequences…

It’s not.

ADHD kids thrive when expectations are clear and consistent, but it’s easier to be consistent when the expectations you set are easy to follow through on.

For how to implement consequences in the right way, it’s one part of what I teach inside Connected & Practical Parenting (linked in bio 🔗).

Comment CPP and I’ll send you the link to save 40% and get the free back to school success plan through Thursday!

Setting clear expectations is only one piece of what goes into raising an ADHD child, but the foundation has to be built on a strong relationship.

For a complete toolkit on how to raise an ADHD child, that’s where Connected & Practical Parenting comes in.
