Not all supplements marketed for "hormone balance" are safe for PMOS (formerly known as PCOS) — some can actually make symptoms worse.

Our own Dr. Li-Shei Lin was one of three OB-GYNs featured in EatingWell, flagging DHEA as a supplement to avoid: "It may magnify the symptoms of PCOS in patients who already have higher androgens."

Other supplements the article flags: high-dose iodine, preformed vitamin A, licorice root, and St. John's Wort — each for different reasons specific to PMOS management.

The takeaway: skip label-driven decisions and review any supplement with your care team first.
