Hot weather doesn’t just make you uncomfortable—it can also make vein symptoms more noticeable.
When temperatures rise, your veins naturally dilate (expand) to help your body cool down. If your leg veins already have weakened valves (venous insufficiency), this extra dilation can allow even more blood to pool in the legs, leading to:
🦵 Aching or throbbing legs
🦵 A feeling of heaviness or fatigue
🦵 Increased swelling around the ankles
🦵 More visible varicose veins
🦵 Night cramps or restless legs
While the heat doesn’t cause vein disease, it can make existing symptoms worse.
💡 Stay hydrated, keep moving, elevate your legs when possible, avoid prolonged standing or sitting, and consider compression stockings if recommended by your physician.
If your legs consistently feel worse during hot weather, it may be worth having a venous duplex ultrasound to determine whether venous insufficiency is the cause.
