July 27-31 is Black Infertility Awareness Week. It’s important to talk about the systemic disparities and barriers that Black parents face—but that’s only part of the story.

Black parents and parents-to-be deserve joy.
They deserve abundant options.
They deserve a culture that honors and uplifts them.
They deserve care that doesn’t just meet their needs, but goes above and beyond.
They deserve providers that look like them and understand their needs and concerns.
They deserve to see themselves represented and have their success stories celebrated.

Surrogacy has come a long way over the years.

The more safeguards and standards we have for surrogacy, the more positive the experience will be for both intended parents and gestational carriers. That means legal representation, medical evaluations, background checks - and mental health support. That’s where we enter the picture.

Almost 50 years ago today, the first baby conceived via in vitro fertilization was born. Since then, this incredible technology has helped millions of people enter the world - including our two daughters.

We’re endlessly grateful for the scientists, doctors, nurses, advocates, and community members who have moved IVF forward and worked tirelessly for intended parents around the world.

It’s understandable to use AI tools like ChatGPT to seek answers during your surrogacy journey. But it’s important to know what these tools are good for—and what they aren’t.

AI can be helpful for concrete information and broad overviews. What it isn’t good at is the sort of nuanced, independent thinking you’ll find in a good therapist.
