Peterson Physical Therapy

Peterson Physical Therapy One-on-one physical therapy with full gym integration. No rushed visits. No cookie-cutter plans. Just intentional care that helps you move strong and pain-free

We believe that a meticulous assessment is the best way to prescribe effective treatment. The most powerful way to provide physical therapy services is with one-on-one attention and consistent follow up with your primary clinician. At Peterson PT we feel that pain serves as a warning sign that something isn't working quite right. It's important to pay attention to those signs and get to the bottom

of what's causing them before too much damage is done. Something that seems as simple as an ankle sprain can really be indicative of a larger problem especially when you start to sprain your ankle repeatedly. The sprains and subsequent pain you feel are symptoms of a larger problem. Rest, modalities, and ice are important but if you don't investigate further up the chain you are missing the most important information. At Peterson PT we will address not just "what" hurts but "why" it's hurting in the first place and how to prevent it from happening again. Services include specialty in orthopedic manual therapy, trigger point dry needling (TDN), therapeutic and corrective exercise prescription as well as thorough education on preventative and self management techniques.

Can’t say enough about the benefits of a good nights sleep! If a new mattress would help you make that happen head to LaPlata High School tomorrow between 10 and 3. All sales benefit the athletic department as well as some other programs. If you show them this flyer there’s a certain Peterson that would be thrilled to get a gift card for referring you!

A major reason for the massive frustration with Medicare Advantage plans is the requirement for prior authorization. This is NOT a requirement of traditional Medicare and causes SIGNIFICANT delays in care. As of September 15, 2026 ALL Carefirst Medicare Advantage plans require prior authorization to initiate PT. Our current experience with this process is approvals are taking about 2 weeks average. Feel free to call your retirement benefits manager to voice your frustration with this new requirement.

**edit to say that when the auth FINALLY gets approved they use the auth request date as the start date which is usually about 2 weeks prior to the earliest start date but we can usually add another week because most clinics are backed up and take a week to get an appt. This also impacts the expiration date make the approved time frame 2 weeks shorter. Significant savings potential for the insurance company there. This equate to about 3 weeks worth of PT they don’t have to pay for.

Things always sound positive when ideas are floating around but this really is just a way to save money, cut small independent practices out of the equation (which has already begun), minimize patient's choice in therapy providers, and eventually justify minimizing in-person PT at all. The plan will be to digitize treatments as much as possible. Post joint replacement PT will literally become a piece of paper (probably issued while you're coming out of the OR) or an app that is assigned to everyone. But hey they might start buying everyone cheap tablets to run the app on 🫩

In the model, physical therapists would serve as a critical component of some of Medicare’s most common surgical interventions.

Please Excuse the Language but the message is good.

Modifying the load” is very key in this video. Non-traumatic overuse injuries don’t happen because somethings wrong with you or you’re “too old.” They happen bc you finally hit a load point that your system can’t handle and it’s begging you to make a change and train for it.

Load comes in many forms specifically resistance, speed, endurance, and frequency and all different types of load that can be modified.

This video mentions sports medicine but as we tell our patience we can be “athletes” our whole lives it’s the type of activities that change. So if you’re training to stay in your garden, pick up your grandbaby, or just walk the neighborhood make sure your body is ready for it.
