How did I get here?
Why did potential keep me invested?
Why did I go back?
How do I choose differently next time?

These aren’t questions to shame yourself with. They’re questions that can help you finally understand the pattern—and interrupt it.

That’s what we’re talking about in Why Smart Women Stay Too Long.

💜 A honest conversations. No shame. Just truth, clarity, and better choices.

You’re smart. Self-aware. Successful.

So how did you end up questioning yourself in a relationship you knew didn’t feel right?

Not because you didn’t know better.

Because it didn’t happen all at once.

You gave it more time.
You considered his perspective.
You tried communicating differently.
You saw the potential.
You told yourself relationships require work.

Each decision made sense on its own.

Until one day, you looked up and realized you had become incredibly good at explaining a reality you weren’t actually happy living in.

That’s the part we don’t talk about enough.

Knowing something is wrong and trusting yourself enough to act on what you know are two different things.

And that gap deserves understanding—not shame.

That’s what we’re talking about in How Did I Get Here?

This past Sunday, I got to witness a vision become real.

Twelve weeks ago, five women said yes to becoming the Founding Cohort of Beyond Survival. They entered a space I had spent months building, refining, praying over, and believing could help women develop a different relationship with themselves—and with love.

On Sunday, we celebrated what happened because they said yes.

We laughed. We reflected. We raised our glasses. And we honored the courage it takes to look honestly at the ways you have learned to survive in love—and decide that survival will no longer be the standard.

But this graduation meant something to me, too.

The Secure Love Method™ began as an idea rooted in my own lived experience, my clinical work, and a question I could not stop asking:

What would become possible if women learned they never had to abandon themselves to be loved?

Sunday gave me part of the answer.

To my Founding Five: thank you for trusting me with your stories, your vulnerability, your growth, and this vision while it was still becoming.

You will forever be part of the foundation of The Secure Love Method™.

And this is only the beginning.

Here’s to women who are learning to exhale.🥂
To trust themselves again.
To stop negotiating reality.
And to choose themselves without apology.

Congratulations, Founding Cohort. We did it. 🤎

Negotiating reality rarely sounds like:

“I refuse to accept the truth.”

It usually sounds much more reasonable.

I’m trying to be patient.

Relationships take work.

Nobody is perfect.

He’s trying.

We’ve been through so much.

I don’t want to make an emotional decision.

And every one of those things may be true.

But Secure Love asks us to hold another truth at the same time:

Am I using this information to understand reality—or to avoid responding to it?

That distinction matters.

Because choosing yourself does not always mean leaving.

Sometimes it means asking the harder question.

Setting the boundary.

Stopping the overfunctioning.

Allowing someone else’s behavior to be information instead of something you have to explain, fix, or wait out.

And sometimes, yes, it means deciding that what is being offered is no longer enough for you.

September is about the conversations underneath the conversations:

How did I get here?

Why did potential keep me invested?

Why did I go back?

How do I choose differently next time?

That’s Why Smart Women Stay Too Long™, a four-part Secure Love Conversations series.

We begin September 9.

One of the easiest ways to negotiate reality is through empathy.

You understand his childhood.

His previous relationship hurt him.

His father wasn’t emotionally available.

He’s overwhelmed at work.

Nobody ever taught him how to communicate.

He’s afraid of vulnerability.

And maybe every bit of that is true.

But somewhere along the way, understanding why he behaves a certain way can quietly become the reason you keep accepting how he behaves.

Secure Love doesn’t ask you to stop having compassion.

It asks you to stop using compassion to erase impact.

You can understand why someone shuts down and still acknowledge that being repeatedly shut out hurts you.

You can understand someone’s fear of commitment and decide you don’t want to remain in an indefinite relationship.

You can understand someone’s trauma without volunteering to become the place where they continually act it out.

His story matters.

So does yours.

Understanding explains behavior.

It does not automatically make the behavior acceptable.
It does not make the relationship aligned.
And it does not require you to stay.

This is what happens when you stop negotiating reality:

You realize that understanding someone and choosing them are two completely different decisions.

You can have compassion for his story and still choose yourself without apology.

Comment CONVERSATIONS if this is a distinction you’re learning to make.

Tonight, I’m raising a glass to us. 🥂

Tonight, I completed the very first Beyond Survival cohort, and I couldn’t have asked for a better Founding 5 to begin this journey with me.

I had a vision. I trusted God. And I trusted myself enough to build it.

I’m incredibly proud of what I created and deeply grateful to my Founding 5 for trusting me with their stories, their growth, and this vision.

I built something meaningful. We built something special.

Cheers to the Founding 5. 🥂
And cheers to me. 🥂

POV: You looked up one day and thought, “Wait… how did I get HERE?” 😩😂

Not because you weren’t smart. Not because you didn’t see the signs. But because self-abandonment rarely happens all at once.

Let’s talk about how we got here—and how we choose differently. 💜

There is a side of healing nobody talks about enough.

It’s the moment you stop needing reality to be different before you allow yourself to respond to it.

You stop building relationships with future versions of people.

You let patterns carry more weight than promises.

You stop calling yourself impatient because you have standards.

And you stop spending months—or years—trying to turn information into a different answer.

Secure women still hope.

They simply don’t use hope to override evidence.

Healing isn’t only about feeling better.
Sometimes it’s about becoming willing to see clearly—and act accordingly.

Sometimes your nervous system hates uncertainty so much that it would rather create an answer than wait for one.

They go quiet.
The energy shifted.
Something feels different.

And suddenly, your mind has written an entire story.

Pause.

What do I actually know?
What am I assuming?
What has reality confirmed?

Your feelings deserve attention. But they are not always evidence.

Regulate before you interpret.

Let reality finish the story.

Try this 3–3–3 Reality Reset when you feel yourself filling in the blanks:

3 slow breaths.
3 things you know to be true.
3 minutes before you respond, text, check, or investigate.

Save this for the next time your nervous system tries to finish a story reality hasn’t confirmed.
