🌿Dill, anethum graveolens, is a well known culinary herb that originates from northern Africa and the Arabian peninsula. This common herb can be found in many pantries in pickling, dips, and in fish recipes. Dill has been used in ancient Egypt as a balm for wounds and pain. Dill is also commonly used as a digestive aid, especially for infant colic in the form of gripe water as dill oil.
🌿Dill seed can be used in conjunction with fennel and fenugreek seeds to help with milk production. It has also been shown to reduce cholesterol, especially LDL and triglycerides, as well as helping with insulin sensitivity in Type 2 diabetes. In another study, dill seed helped reduce osteoclastic activity (bone breakdown) which could be helpful for patients with osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.
🌿So don’t forget to throw on some dill with your next meal to enjoy these health benefits!
