Menopause care is changing. And women deserve to know why.
On October 15, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) released updated clinical guidelines for managing menopause symptoms.
One of the most important takeaways? Menopausal hormone therapy is strongly recommended for treating hot flashes, night sweats, and related sleep disturbances in women who are appropriate candidates.
But there’s more to the story.
The new guidance emphasizes:
• Individualized treatment decisions based on medical history, symptoms, and personal risk factors.
• The importance of when hormone therapy is started, particularly before age 60 or within 10 years of menopause.
• Effective nonhormonal treatment options for women who cannot or prefer not to use hormones.
• Ongoing reassessment rather than assuming every woman needs the same treatment duration.
This doesn’t mean hormone therapy is risk-free, or that every hormone formulation has the same supporting evidence.
It means we’re continuing to learn, reassess older assumptions, and improve how we care for women during menopause.
And that is a conversation worth having.
At Belle Jeunesse, we believe informed patients make better healthcare decisions.
