Can we talk about your poops?!?!

Bowel function affects the whole pelvic floor.
Constipation can affect symptoms like:

😓 having to p*e NOW
😓 p*eing when you couch, sneeze, jump
😓 having to excessively wipe
😓 low back and/or tailbone pain
😓 cramping
😓 feeling pressure or heaviness over the perineum
😓 hemorrhoids
😓 it also interferes with the elimination of estrogen

So yes, it's beneficial to monitor your bowels...

Think of how often you go, what it looks like, did you have to strain (try not to my friends!!), did you have to wipe forever, was there pain before, during, or after??

Poops tell us how our body is functioning (just like our cycles).

Pelvic Floor PT can help you figure out small changes to make and improve bowel function, making life more comfortable!!

Reach out if you have any questions ⚜️

Fall is creeping in even though the temps haven't caught on. 🍂

Here at Magnolia Movement, we continue to treat a variety of aches and discomfort.

At Magnolia Movement you are seen as a person. A person with a history, who may have had surgery, who may be in a busy season with caregiving, who has an old injury from high school, who may not have slept well last night, who may be worried, who has questions, who is probably dehydrated, who hasn't slowed down in a while, who is excited to make a change.

We are trained to treat the whole person with our background in orthopedic physical therapy and specialization in pelvic floor PT.

🍁 Consistent poor posture can make your head feel heavier than it is, which can crowd the nerves that go down our arms. This can feel like persistent neck pain and tightness with aching numbness/tingling going down the arm. We are working on mid back and rib mobility, shoulder stability, core strengthening, and postural awareness.

🍁 Pelvic and hip restrictions can create an imbalance of muscle weakness and tension. This can feel like one-sided low back pain with aching numbness/tingling going down the leg. We are working on hip mobility and stability promoting balance in the pelvis.

🍁 Re**al pain and/or spasms can be from tension and gripping. We find the reason for the increased tension you are holding, work on breathing, talk about bowel movement function, and help you manage pain if flare-ups happen.

🍁 Regional pain can happen after surgery and/or injury. Releasing the layers of your fascia and muscles is the best approach. Deep pressure is not always the answer. Then, move pain-free to gain confidence in what you want to do.

A big thank you to Heather with Magnolia Movement PT and Wellness LLC for joining our Care Team for a Lunch & Learn session!

Heather shared valuable information about the services she provides as Lafayette’s only oncology physical therapist and how specialized physical therapy can help cancer patients and survivors manage pain, regain strength, and improve mobility throughout and after treatment.

We’re grateful for opportunities like this to learn from other professionals in our community and continue expanding the resources and knowledge we can share with the families we serve. Thank you, Heather, for taking the time to connect with our team!

Physical Therapy support of those with a cancer diagnosis through Cancer Rehab ✨️

🌿 Chemotherapy is a treatment sometimes used for those with a cancer diagnosis.

🌿 There are different types of Chemotherapy with different dosing schedules. Thus, there are different side effects and patient experiences.

One common side effect is CIPN or
Chemo- Induced Peripheral Neuropathy. This is the numbness and/or tingling in the hands and/or feet of those who have received chemotherapy treatments.

There are physical therapy treatments that can help manage this numbness and/or tingling, improving hand use and function, as well as ones overall balance and steadiness.

Reach out with any questions you may have. Remember, it's never too late to make changes.
