💚💛We are so excited to welcome (back) Mrs. Alyssa Landry Richard to our OT Team. If Alyssa looks or sounds familiar, you may remember her from our BUDS program. She was a top notch group leader who seemed to have a natural ability to support children and facilitate development. Now she is back as a licensed Occupational Therapist!

For the last two weeks, she has undergone our in-house intensive OT training and now she is ready to serve our kiddos. This is great news because this means that we have new time slots available for our current kids to increase their levels of intervention intensity or for new kiddos in the community who have been waiting to finally get the highly skilled support they have been seeking.

Social opportunities naturally arise as we frequently encounter other children and invite them into our play. We have AMAZING PROFESSIONALS (SLPs and OTs) who know how to USE THOSE OPPORTUNITES to support interactions.

You may have also noticed her creativity, as she has played both a lead and supportive roles in designing and creating our lobby activities. Thank you for the last two years! 🎉 Happy 1st Anniversary, Mrs. Emily! 🎉

It's hard to believe it's only been one year since Emily joined the PTLC team. From day one, she was immediately loved by our staff, our families, and especially our kiddos.

Emily is an OT with a special way of helping children feel seen, valued, and successful. Her kindness, positive energy, and genuine care make it easy for children to connect with her. And when she's out, they definitely let us know how much they miss her!

Behind that warm smile is a bright and talented therapist who thoughtfully analyzes challenges, works to find solutions, and shows genuine care for colleagues, kids, and families. Emily brings patience, joy, and heart to everything she does.

Wondering whether your child’s communication skills are developing as expected? Our speech-language SCREENINGS are an affordable way to gather information and get guidance on what to do next. To set one up, just call our office within a week or so of when you would like to come in. There is no extensive intake process. Just make the appointment and show up with your child. We will guide you through the rest.

At PTLC, our speech-language pathologists are committed to ongoing learning and advanced training. We also collaborate closely with our occupational therapists, allowing us to look at the whole child and consider how communication, sensory processing, attention, play, and regulation work together.

Did you know that children don't have to write letters to start learning them?

Many children learn best when they can move, touch, build, and explore. Before children are ready to consistently form letters with a pencil, they benefit from opportunities to look at letter shapes, manipulate materials, and build letters using hands-on activities.

Building letters with magnetic tiles helps children develop:
✔ Letter awareness
✔ Visual motor skills
✔ Spatial awareness
✔ Problem-solving skills
✔ Fine motor skills

One of my favorite ways to support early literacy is by turning learning into play. When children are engaged and having fun, they're often more willing to practice new skills and stick with challenging tasks.

To help make letter learning more hands-on, I recently created a Magnetic Tile Alphabet Bundle that includes uppercase and lowercase letter mats with progressive levels of difficulty, as well as independent challenge cards for children who are ready for an extra challenge.
