In honor of Mother's Day, we're highlighting this painting titled "Mother" from 2013 by artist Jenny Morgan ( on Instagram) that will soon be on view in the DAM's Modern and Contemporary art galleries.

Known for her work in realistic figuration, artist Jenny Morgan now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, but lived in the Denver area earlier in her career when she attended the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design (2003).

This work, “Mother," blends her early portraiture with elements that suggest the spiritual with its bold use of red and connection between the mother and child. The contrast in colors between the two figures is striking.

Since 2005, she has shown her work extensively across the US, primarily in Denver and New York City, including her 2017 exhibition “Skin Deep” at the MCA Denver.
