Hollie French Art Therapy and Counseling, LLC

Hollie French Art Therapy and Counseling, LLC I provide Art Therapy and Professional Counseling services in Lafayette, LA for children, teens, and adults. I specialize in working with children/teens.

Art Therapy is a Master's level profession that uses art-making as a nonthreatening form of expression. Clients may be encouraged to make art to express how they feel, identify their hopes or goals for the future, explore conflicts in relationships, or create potential solutions to problems. Art-making allows us to express things we don't know how to explain or describe. And it gives us a tangible

form that we can touch, hold, look at, change, or destroy depending on what the situation calls for. For children, it may be a natural form of expression and allows them to work through problems or cope with difficult feelings. For adults, it can speed up the therapy process because it serves as a" mirror," allowing you to see and better understand your thoughts, feelings, and behavior. It can also take away some of the awkward moments of trying to figure out what to say or how to say it to your counselor. Instead, you dive right in and begin to confront whatever the issue is right away. In addition, art-making in and of itself is a healing activity, so you may begin to feel better right away.

"We spend months, sometimes years, preparing to become parents. We read books, talk to friends, take classes. But few of us prepare for becoming caregivers to our own parents. Yet this, too, is a developmental stage of life — one that asks us to redefine our roles, priorities, and even our identities."

"I experienced a never ending onslaught of intrusive thoughts, vivid visions of my children being hurt or dying, and a level of insomnia I would not wish on my worst enemy.

The worst part is that somewhere in the recesses of my brain, I knew this was all irrational. I KNEW thoughts like this were NOT normal, but I also knew that if I told anyone about said thoughts, they would take away my kids and have me involuntarily committed and medicated."

Hello!

I was just asked to be a regular contributor to Lafayette Moms. 😍

What are some topics you'd like to learn more about or get some support with as a mom in our area??

Are you interested in any of these?
- Raising boys to be emotionally intelligent AND navigate "tough guy" expectations that are still present in our culture
- Being a neurodivergent mom struggling with cultural expectations to do it all, care for everyone else's needs, AND not get so overstimulated that we lose our s*
- Building community/ Creating your village from scratch- when raising a family without extended family to support you
- Is not signing your kids up for every sport and/or activity they or we want them to try failing them as a parent? What about not doing any sport or activity outside of school?

Comment below and let me know! Please and thank you! 🙏
