Bernard F. O'Kane

Bernard F. O’Kane, “Bernie”, age 94, of Jamesville, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14th 2026. Son of Maurice and Ellen O’Kane. Bernard was a US Navy Veteran, having served aboard the USS Arneb (1951-1954) He worked as a machinist at Carrier Corporation’s TR-3 plant in Syracuse, where he retired after 36 years. Bernard was fond of Beagles, enjoyed hunting and was thrilled with the variety of birds that visited his bird feeders. He was an avid reader of local, world and military history, and enjoyed his cowboy shows and movies.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Arelene O’Kane and his brother William O’Kane.

Bernard is survived by his son, Kevin O’Kane and grandson, Steven of Chittenango; son Michael O’Kane, his wife, Robin and granddaughter, Allison of Jamesville; daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Damon Towner of Kirkville.

The family wishes to thank the 3rd floor staff at Upstate Community hospital for their outstanding professional TLC while caring for Bernard.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be private, with burial in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.

Louis F. Karb

Louis F. Karb, 92 of Syracuse passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026. Louis was a graduate of Onondaga Central High School and participated in multiple basketball championships. He was an Army Veteran and retired from Carrier Corp. after 40 years of service. Louis was an avid fisherman and baseball fan. He loved to watch the Yankees lose and the Red Sox win. He was well loved and appreciated for his dry wit, easy going nature and patience.

Louis was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Karb, in 2017; and son in law, Ray Churchill; a brother, Eugene Karb; and a sister, Frances Adams.

He is survived by his daughters, Lori Churchill and Julie Karb; grandchildren, Kaleigh and Shannon Churchill; a brother, Richard Karb; and several nieces and nephews.

Austin Karl Jones

Austin Karl Jones (aka AJ) passed unexpectedly on July 23, 2026.

AJ was born in Syracuse NY on August 30, 1992, he is survived by his parents, Kevin Jones of LaFayette NY, and his mother Gené Maine of Syracuse NY, his older brother Evan Jones, of SC, and his younger brother Alex (Alyssia) Jones of Tully, NY. His nephews Damon and Onyx, and his niece Alana. His nephews and niece were the joy of his life. His girlfriend Janine Johnson, of LaFayette NY, his Uncle Brian Jones of Colton, NY, his Aunt Michelle (David) Everding, of Fayetteville, NY, and his Uncle Jeff (Chris) Maine, of West Winfield, NY. His cousins Mac, Hailey, Ryan, Collin and Ethan.

He was pre deceased by his grandparents, Mark and Patricia Jones of Colton, NY and Karl Maine and Sylvia Snyder. His sister, Kendra Jones (AJ's Irish Twin) passed away in June of 2022.

AJ's love for family and friends was unmatched, he was always the guy who had your back. His smile always brought a smile to others in return.

As a youth, AJ's passions were football and snow skiing which lead to working for four years at Song Mountain. After college he went to work at a variety of call centers and eventually moved to Charleston, SC and worked security for a number of establishments. In the summer of 2024 he returned home to the enthusiastic greeting of not only his family and friends, but his loving dog Daisy .His only real sports passion was the Dallas Cowboys and became a very good dart player competing in numerous leagues, but he did really enjoy the Montreal Canadians 2026 playoff run with his friends.

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, August 4th, at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home in LaFayette NY, from 1-3 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at 3pm, at the funeral home. A celebration of life will follow at 3:30 pm at The LaFayette Inn, in LaFayette NY.

Victoria Rae Fitzpatrick

Victoria Rae Fitzpatrick, 40, of LaFayette, passed peacefully at her home on Friday, July 24, 2026, after courageously battling Type I diabetes and kidney failure for many years.

Born December 3, 1985, Victoria was a talented artist whose creativity touched many parts of her life. She was an avid collector of elephants, loved watching Friends, and was happiest with her music turned up loud.

Above all, Victoria loved being a mother to her son, Carter. Her greatest joy was watching him play baseball and football and practice karate. She was immensely proud of the smart, caring, and creative young man he has become. Throughout her long health journey, Carter was her greatest motivation to keep fighting. She was determined to remain his biggest fan and to share as many of life's milestones with him as possible.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved son, Carter Bequer, age 10 and his father, Daniel Bequer of LaFayette; her mother, Janet Burton (Robert), of LaFayette; her father, Scott Fitzpatrick (Nadine Alexander), of LaFayette; her brother, Kevin Fitzpatrick (Hannah), of Tully; her stepsisters, Angela Burton of Boston and Cassidy Crouch (Chris) of Nashville; her nephews, Thomas O’Connell, Wellington Fitzpatrick, Wayland Fitzpatrick, Graham Fitzpatrick, Abbott Crouch, and Conway Crouch; and her grandfathers, Ronald Bush of LaFayette and Justin Fitzpatrick of Otisco. She is also survived by precious friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear family friends.

She was predeceased by her grandmothers Nancy Bush and Janet Fitzpatrick and her longtime canine companion, Joss.

Victoria's family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the LaFayette Ambulance Department, University Internists at Upstate, University Dialysis, Joslin Diabetes Center at Upstate, and Jody Hume for the care and support they gave Victoria. Jody's lifesaving kidney donation gave Victoria the precious gift of being Carter's mother for 10 years.

Services will be held privately on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, followed by interment at LaFayette Rural Cemetery.

Louise "Jean" Taylor

Louise “Jean” Taylor, 93, of Syracuse, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with family at her side. She was a member of the Valley American Legion Post 1468 Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family and playing Bingo.

She is predeceased by her husband, George L. Taylor; her parents, Ida and Henry DeSaw; siblings, Dorothy, Harold and Leonard.

Jean is survived by her children, Linda, George (Cissy), Paul (Norine), Robert (Tara), Terri (Ryan) and Laura (Henry); 10 grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and several, nieces and nephews; and her Childhood Best Friend, Betty.

Robyn Joanne Scharoun

Robyn Joanne Klink Scharoun, 95 of Syracuse, passed away on July 21, 2026.

Robyn was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Baird) Klink. She was a graduate of Liverpool High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Oswego State Teachers College and her Master’s degree from Hofstra University. Robyn was employed as a kindergarten teacher in the Elmont School district, Fayetteville-Manlius School district and retired from teaching with the La Fayette School District in 1993. Robyn was a long-time active member of Atonement Lutheran Church where she was a Crafty Lady, a Monday Money Counter, and a former council member. She enjoyed quilting, weekends with her family at the family camp on Hickory Lake and eating chocolate any chance she could get.

Robyn is survived by her sons, Andrew (Stephanie) Scharoun, and Peter (Maureen) Scharoun; grandsons Keegan and Casey Scharoun; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Charles in 2011.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life event for a future date yet to be determined. Memorial contributions may be made to Atonement Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 116 West Glen Avenue; Syracuse NY 13205. Kenneth E. Miller Sr., 91 of LaFayette, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 after a brief illness. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and travelling.

Ruth E. Johnson, 92, of Jamesville, passed away with family by her side at St. Camillus Skilled Nursing and Short Term Rehab. She graduated from Central High School. Ruth retired from John Hancock after 39 years.

She was born on April 8th, 1957 in Syracuse,NY to Francis & Alice Murdent, growing up in Cuyler,NY.

Mary is predeceased by her Parents; Francis & Alice Murdent, her Brother’s; Ceylon & Francis Jr. Murdent, her Sister; Kathryn Sabin, 2nd Husband; Michael Bradish, 3rd Husband; Grant Morrison, Granddaughter; Sierra Lexus Hale & Great Grandson; Brandon James Little Jr.

She is survived by her Children; Hollie (Hassan) Phillips & Jeremie (Erica) Hale, Grandchildren; Mandie Galvin, Blaik Hale (with Great Grandchildren; Ashton James, Bentley Michael & Oakley Marie), Antonia Hale & Jeremie Hale Jr. (with Great Grandson; Chandler Layne) & her many beloved Nieces & Nephews.

Mary was proud of her Native American Lineage. She was a Fabius-Pompey Falcon Graduate from the Class of 1975. She studied at Tompkins Community College majoring in Business. She later attended the Cortland B.O.C.E.S. Nursing Program.

Mary was a Nurse for 28yrs. at the Cortland Regional Medical Center before it became Guthrie. She was a Wellness Coordinator at the Liberty Commons Assisted Living Center connected to the Regional Medical Center where she oversaw the Elderly short & long term patients while also running the Alzheimer’s Unit. There she oversaw Patients & Staff. She had a profound & unforgettable impact on the patients & their families while also on co-workers & staff. She had always strived to be an RN. She retired in June of 2019 as an L.P.N.

Mary’s final place to call home was that of Cortland,NY on 42 Church Street where she became part of a community, making many new friends & rekindling with some old ones. She took on the role of Vice President on the Residents Association. She loved music, cooking & baking. All round having a good time with friends & family. She was kind hearted & giving to all those she crossed paths with. Christmas was her favorite holiday & reflected the big heart she had.

Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 5-7 pm at the Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette, NY 13084 along with a Memorial Service to follow.

Joseph Murgia

Joseph R. “Joe” Murgia, age 73, of Jamesville, NY (formerly of Andover, MA) passed away Monday, July 6th after a long battle with cancer. He was a graduate of St. John’s Prep (Massachusetts) High School and graduated in 1983 with an AAS from OCC, he retired from Honeywell in 2018 after 30+ years. Joe had been an EMT, was a founding member of WAVES, and also served proudly as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years at the Sentinel Heights Fire Department. Joe is survived by his wife, Marie Murgia; Sons, Christopher (Ellen) Murgia and Nicholas Murgia, Daughters; Kathleen Pulito, Hope Murgia and Faith (Matt) Critella, Stepchildren; Bradley Bacon, Briana Lane and Bryan (Anna) Bacon, and Brother; Robert Murgia as well as 12 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

Barbara Johnson, 57, of the Onondaga Nation Snipe Clan, passed away June 18th 2026 at SUNY Upstate Medical University. To anyone who knew her, Barbara was a shining light always there to care for and help as many people as she could. Her true passion was her family, as she enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandson Ezra.

Barbara was predeceased by her, husband, David Jacabowicz, mother, Caroline J. Wilbur, step-father, Tom Oakes and step-brother, Wayne Oakes.

She is survived by her son, Nathan Crane, sister, Vanessa (Carrie Thomas) Oakes, brothers, Thomas Oakes Sr. and Loren Oakes, nieces, Cierra and Cienna (Nate) Oakes, nephews, Thomas Jr. great-nephew, Karl, other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Terry Bloom

Terry Bloom, age 77.

He was born on April 7 ,1949. He left this world on June 20th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Going into the waiting arms of his parents, John and Kay Bloom, and his grandsons, Cole and Dallas.

He is survived by his beautiful wife of 43 years, Judith (Stanek) Bloom; and their children Kristen, Melissa (Ross), Ethan (Becky), Jennifer (Paul) and Jacob. Many, many grandchildren and multiple great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his Siblings, Mike (Sally), Matt, Tim (Colleen) and Connie.

All of us will forever cherish our memories of him.

Terry was born in Schenectady, went to Lafayette high school and graduated from Cobleskill and Geneseo.

He retired after 30 years , from Onondaga county, working various positions in civil service.

Terry and his wife made wonderful friends doing craft shows for years. He loved making wood furniture and dream catchers.

Terry enjoyed everything to do with the outdoors. You could always find him in his barn, Tinkering with mowers and trying to figure out how to use some of his "never throw this away" pile. He had a passion for wolves, and sponsored many over the years.

We would like to thank all the staff at DaVita and St. Joseph's Hospital for the care they gave him.

No services will be held, as Terry always wanted a big get together outside.

A celebration of life will be held on July 11, 2026, at his home.

Timothy Scott Kenyon

Timothy Scott Kenyon, 59, of Kirkville, New York, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026.

Born in Fulton, New York, Timothy was the son of the late Ga***rd and Barbara Kenyon. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth Kenyon and Terry Kenyon.

Timothy proudly served his country in the United States Army before spending many years working as a truck driver for Upstate Farms. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, he took pride in his work and the friendships he made along the way.

Timothy was best known for his sense of humor. A true jokester, he loved making people laugh and could always find a way to lighten the mood. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sharing stories, smoking and living life on his own terms. Those who knew him will remember his wit, resilience, and the many laughs he brought to others.

Timothy is survived by his sisters, Tricia Dupra (Will), Ella Shattuck (Jeff), and Roberta Kenyon. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.

Though he may be gone from our sight, Timothy's humor, stories, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In accordance with Timothy's wishes, he will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Homes.

Mary Jo (Keeney) Chase

Mary Jo K. Chase, 91, of LaFayette, NY, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026. Born on January 13,1935 at Cortland Memorial Hospital on a cold, severe winter’s day to John Kenneth Keeney and Marian Corinne Cardner Keeney, their first-born child. Her arrival was followed by Nancy Corinne Keeney in 1937, Margaret Ann Keeney in 1940, and Richard Harlan Keeney in 1947.

She grew up on a second-generation family dairy farm on West Keeney Road in Cuyler, NY, with her parents and siblings. She graduated from Fabius High School in 1952.

She attended Ithaca College, School of Music, for two years followed by one year at Cortland Business School. She worked for the local radio station WKRT for three years. She then became a stay-at-home mom, living seven years in Cortland and eleven years in Groton. In 1976, her family moved to LaFayette, NY where she resided until 2020. In that time, she worked nearly 40 years for the Syracuse University School of Management as a departmental secretary. Mary Jo was a member of the Columbian Presbyterian Church in LaFayette, NY, where she was the organist and Music Director for nearly 40 years. She also taught Sunday School and volunteered for various church social activities.

She enjoyed spending time with her longtime companion, Sumner Palmer. They traveled together, attending festivals, fairs and all John Deere related activities. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She is predeceased by her parents, and daughter-in-law, Sandra Jean Rice Chase.

She is survived by her sons, Stephen D. (Jennifer Kimber) Chase of Chittenango, NY; Stuart K. (Constance) Chase of Fayetteville, NY; three granddaughters, Ashley (Paul) Kloster, Shelby (Kyle) Gorze, all of Colorado Springs, CO, and Lydia Corinne Chase of Syracuse, NY; two great granddaughters, Carter and Cora Kloster; three siblings, Nancy (Paul McDonough) Krager, Margaret Pratt, and Richard (Barbara) Keeney; and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara Ann (Jackson) Rymarchyk

Barbara Ann (Jackson) Rymarchyk, 82, of Jamesville, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Sunday, May 10th. She was born in Johnsonburg, PA to Margaret (remarried to Robert Abplanalp) and Henry Jackson. She graduated from Drexel University in 1965 with a BA in Home Economics. Barb was married to Bernard John Rymarchyk and together they had three children and she spent the next three decades as a homemaker.

Barb was a frugal homemaker who prided herself on her thriftiness and worked hard with Bernie to grow and preserve fresh produce for the family all year round. She also enjoyed hosting family and friends, cooking and baking, and often sharing and trading recipes.

Barb was very active in her church, the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Manlius. She was involved with the Sunday school program, Meals-on-Wheels, the church council, the altar guild, the social ministry committee, Bible study and the refugee resettlement program.

In her later years, Barb and Bernie spent some time traveling around the U.S., visiting family and friends along the way.

Barb found joy in life’s simple moments: good coffee and the Sunday crossword. She will be remembered for her cooking, her generous nature and her laugh.

She is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Thomas Abplanalp and her husband, Bernard Rymarchyk. She is survived by her three daughters: Gretchen Rymarchyk, Jessica (Jeffrey Read) Rymarchyk, and Stacia (Stanley Worthley) Rymarchyk; two grandchildren, Tala Solomon and Samuel Rymarchyk; sister Susan (John) Bauer; brother-in-law Nicholas (Marcia) Rymarchyk, Jr. and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sylvia Tadeo September 8, 1932 – May 6, 2026

With profound love and sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved aunt and grandmother, Sylvia Tadeo, on May 6, 2026, at the age of 93.

Sylvia was the heart of her family — a woman remembered for her endless generosity, warmth, and unwavering love for those around her. She made each person feel special through her thoughtful spirit and caring nature. Her family was the center of her life, and the memories she created with them will be cherished forever.

For more than 20 years, Sylvia dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse in the maternity ward at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. She brought compassion and comfort to countless families during some of the most important moments of their lives. Nursing was not simply her profession — it was a reflection of her generous spirit and deep commitment to helping others.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Maria and Onofre Tadeo; and her sister, Catalina Baston.

Sylvia leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, Jeffrey (Aileen) Baston, Maria (Rodger) Walker, Pedro (Anna) Baston, grandchildren, Clarissa, Marie, Alyssa, Noah, Colin, Harrison, and Peter, as well as countless godchildren whose lives she touched deeply. Her legacy lives on through the family and friends who were fortunate enough to know her love and guidance.

Sylvia had a passion for fashion and carried herself with grace and elegance throughout her life. She loved traveling the world and embraced every adventure with curiosity and joy. She also found great happiness in gardening, creating beauty wherever she planted and caring for her garden with the same devotion she showed to her family.

Calliing Hours will be Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 4-7PM at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. Services will follow at 7PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place Wednesday, May 13, 2026, 1PM at St. Mary's Cemetery, 4100 E. Genesee Street, Dewitt, New York.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.

Rev. Roberta A. Yackel

Rev. Roberta A. Yackel, of Syracuse, New York, passed away on April 23, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born on June 5, 1947.

Roberta dedicated her life to ministry, spiritual care, education, and service to others. An ordained Unity Minister, she served congregations in Bloomington, Minnesota; Ottawa, Ontario; and Albany, New York, providing pastoral care, leading worship, teaching, counseling families and individuals, and officiating for weddings, christenings, funerals, and memorial services.

She later continued her calling as a chaplain at Loretto Health & Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse and ElderWood Health Care at Birchwood in Liverpool, offering comfort and support to nursing home residents and their families. She also worked with the Alzheimer’s Association, CNY Chapter, assisting families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and later served as Spiritual Care Director at InterFaith Works of Central New York before retiring in 2016.

Roberta earned a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from State University College at Buffalo and completed her ministerial education at Unity School for Religious Studies in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was predeceased by her parents, Donald Frederick and Doris Yackel, and her sister, Christine M. Yackel. She is survived by her brother, Donald D. Yackel, and sister, Jane Richer, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

The family wish to thank Roberta’s caregivers at Upstate Hospital at Community Memorial and on Fahey 4 at Loretto Health.

Memorial gifts can be directed to Unity of Syracuse or to Interfaith Works of CNY.

A memorial graveside service will be held at Unity of Syracuse, 300 West Seneca Turnpike, at a future date.
