Acadian Counseling Center

Acadian Counseling Center The mental health professionals and staff at Acadian Counseling Center are here to assist you!

Acadian Counseling Center started with a simple premise: Help people to improve their lives. Here at Acadian Counseling Center, we provide necessary therapy to improve the quality of life. This has a different meaning for each individual; therefore, together we can prepare a unique plan to carry out the steps to do so. We believe that trust and a genuine relationship between the client and counsel

or is paramount in creating change. We strive to form a safe and fun-loving environment to help clients feel empowered and open to sharing and expressing themselves. Acadian Counseling Center was incorporated in 2012 with the hopes of increasing mental health awareness and reducing the stigma related to therapy in our community

🌿 Feeling overwhelmed? Try grounding.

When anxiety, stress, panic, or difficult emotions take over, it can feel like your mind is somewhere far away from the present moment.

Grounding is a therapeutic technique that can help bring you back to the here and now.

Krystal "Dawn" McNemar, LCSW offers her clients one simple technique we often teach is the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Exercise:

👀 5 things you can see
👋 4 things you can touch
👂 3 things you can hear
👃 2 things you can smell
👅 1 thing you can taste

Take your time. Notice the details. Breathe slowly.

Grounding isn't about making difficult emotions disappear. It's about helping your nervous system slow down enough that you can respond instead of react.

It can be especially helpful when you're experiencing:
• Anxiety or panic
• Racing thoughts
• Emotional overwhelm
• Stress
• Feeling disconnected or “checked out”
• Trauma-related distress

💚 Sometimes the first step isn't figuring everything out. Sometimes it's simply coming back to the present moment.

At Acadian Counseling Center, we help clients develop practical coping skills they can use both inside and outside of therapy.

Save this post for the next time you need to feel a little more grounded. 🌿

Children need honesty — but they also need protection.

There is a difference between being emotionally available to your child and emotionally unloading onto your child.

Kids are not meant to carry adult stress, adult conflict, adult secrets, or adult pain before their nervous system is ready to understand it.

They need to know:

💛 “The adults are handling this.”
💛 “You are safe.”
💛 “This is not your job to fix.”
💛 “You can be a child here.”

This doesn’t mean we pretend everything is perfect.

It means we share information in a way that is age-appropriate, regulated, and centered on their emotional safety — not our need to vent.

Children should not have to become the emotional support system for the adults in their life.

Protect their childhood.
Protect their nervous system.
Protect their sense of safety.
