I was honored to be chosen as the first speaker for the re-institution of the Calcasieu Veterinary Medical Association!

Thanks to Dr McMahan for coordinating everything and to all the veterinarians and technicians in the Lake Charles and Sulphur areas who came to participate and support - the collegiality within our profession is one of my favorite things about it. We are all working every day to improve the quality of life for our clients and patients by providing a high quality of medicine and care along with sincere compassion. There is nothing better than the human-animal bond!

Huge shoutout and thank you to Dr. Mullins at Acadiana Veterinary Surgery for delivering such an insightful and engaging CE lecture on Perioperative Surgical Care Recommendations. A huge thanks to Congress Animal Hospital - the sponsor of this - for calling us to help this sweet girl with her humeral fracture!
A mobile surgical service can only exist thanks to the veterinarians who invite us into their practices.
This is a case of vets with big hearts calling AVS so that we could work TOGETHER to save this little pup's life and limb. This situation happens in the veterinary world more than a lot of people realize - we all do this because we truly love our patients and want what's best for them.
AVS is blessed to be supported by some of the best vets in the world - those that call South Louisiana home.

I think it’s safe to say that we are officially in the Dog Days of Summer. The heat waves we’ve been experiencing aren’t only tough for us - they’re tough for our pets. The clinics we visit have been reporting an increase in he number of pets they’ve seen recently for heat stroke, which very often progresses rapidly to become fatal.

Please take precautions to keep your pet out of the extreme heat. Provide shade and lots of water, and be extremely careful if you take them with you in the car, as they overheat even faster in enclosed spaces. Shoutout to our brachycephalic friends - squished nose breeds (English bulldogs, Frenchies, Bostons, Pugs, Shih tzus) are at the greatest risk for heat stroke - keep them inside and keep them cool!
