📚🍎 Back-to-School Snack Tips for Busy Families! ⚽🏈🩰
Now that the kids are back in school, afternoons can quickly become a race between homework, football practice, soccer games, dance lessons, and other activities. Having healthy, convenient snacks on hand can help keep kids energized and focused throughout their busy days! 💪
An ideal snack should be rich in fiber, protein, and healthy fats while limiting excess salt, added sugars, and artificial ingredients. Whether homemade or store-bought, some great snack options include:
🥚 Hard-boiled eggs
🥕 Hummus and fresh veggies
🧀 Cheese and whole-grain crackers
🍫 Protein or granola bars
🥣 Yogurt with fruit
🥜 Nuts and seeds
🍌🍎 Fresh fruit like bananas, apples, and berries
✅ Here are 4 tips for healthy snacking:
1. Keep healthy options prepared: Often when the healthy option is easy and available you're more likely to eat it over the less healthy alternative.
2. Read nutrition labels: When purchasing pre-packed snacks such as snack bars, make sure to look at the amount of protein and sugar in each bar. Look for options with at least 5 grams of protein and an equal or lesser amount of sugar.
3. Involve the whole family in snack planning: As for input from all family members about what snacks they would like to have readily available. This can be a great opportunity for new snack ideas.
4. Keep portion size appropriate: Ideally a snack should be around 150-200 calories.
