Most patients leave an eye exam without asking the questions they actually came in with.

Part of that is not knowing what to ask. So here are a few questions worth bringing up at your next appointment.

Is my prescription stable, or should I expect it to change? What is the health of my optic nerve and retina? Are there any early signs of dry eye? If I have been getting headaches, could my vision be contributing? What is the difference between my prescription for glasses and contacts?

You do not need to memorize these. Just bring them up at the start of your appointment and we will make sure we cover them.

Fall sports are starting and most athletes are playing without adequate eye protection.

Also, don't forget about sun protection. Standard sunglasses will not cut it for contact sports. Here is what to look for:

Polycarbonate lenses are impact-resistant and lightweight. Wraparound frames protect from peripheral impact. Prescription sport goggles are the right choice for swimmers and water sports but ask us about CRT lenses! UV400 protection matters because outdoor sports mean extended sun exposure.

We have sport specific options for every athlete in your family.

It’s Contact Lens Health Week! 👁️

Contact lenses aren’t one-size-fits-all. Your prescription, eye health, vision needs, and lifestyle can all play a role in determining which lens is right for you.

From daily disposables and reusable lenses to toric lenses for astigmatism and multifocal options, the right fit starts with understanding your eyes and how you use them every day. Help us find the best option for your lifestyle.

Healthy contact lens wear starts with the right fit. Schedule an appointment to find the right option for your eyes.

We get asked all the time how we choose which frames to carry.

The short answer is that we only bring in lines we would wear ourselves.

This week we are showing off a few of our current favorites from the boutique floor. These are the frames our team keeps reaching for when patients ask for something a little different.

Come in and try them on. We will help you find your fit.

Being out of network is not a limitation. It is a choice we made for our patients.

When we are not contracted with insurance companies, we are not bound by their rules. That means 45-minute comprehensive exams instead of 15, the frame brands we actually believe in, dry eye treatments your insurance would not cover, and vision therapy that changes lives.

The Mile Eye Club makes this level of care accessible starting at $25 a month.

Kindergarten places more visual demands on children than most parents realize.

Before your child starts school, these are the three visual skills that matter most.

Eye Tracking: following words and lines while reading without losing their place.
Eye Teaming: using both eyes together efficiently for depth perception and sustained focus.
Visual Processing: interpreting what the eyes see quickly and accurately.

Our Kindergarten Readiness Vision Classes in Lafayette are designed to build these foundations before day one. Email us to learn more or attend our free workshop on August 19 from 9-10 to learn more about visual function in learning.

A lot of parents are not sure what happens at a pediatric eye exam, and that uncertainty is often what keeps them from booking one.

Here is what you can expect when you bring your child in for the first time.

We start with a conversation. We want to know how your child is doing in school, whether they are avoiding reading, and if they have ever complained about headaches or tired eyes.

From there, we do a series of tests that go well beyond the standard eye chart. We check how the eyes work together, how they track across a line of text, and how quickly they can shift focus. None of it is uncomfortable, and most kids find it interesting.

The whole appointment takes about 45 minutes. You will leave with a clear picture of where your child's vision stands and what, if anything, needs attention.

Through August, students ages 19 and under can receive $30 off a comprehensive eye exam. If you've been meaning to schedule before school starts, now is a great time to book.

🌳 Love frames with a purpose? Meet Arbor Eyewear.

For every pair sold, Arbor plants a tree—and through their Tree+3 program, 3% of sales supports organizations that help find homes for kids in foster care and orphanages. 🌱 True to their mission, each frame is named after a tree (think Spruce, Cedar, Mulberry, and more).

👇 Drop your favorite tree type or name in the comments, and we’ll reply with a photo of the matching Arbor frame!

Your child passed the school vision screening. That does not mean their eyes are ready to read.

20/20 is just one piece of the puzzle. Eye tracking, eye teaming, and visual processing are the skills that actually drive reading success, and none of them get tested in a hallway screening.

If your child struggles with reading, loses their place on the page, or avoids close work, it is worth a closer look before school starts.

Want to learn more? We're hosting free workshops this August on children's vision and learning. Contact us or visit our website to reserve your spot.
