When your child has a fever, it’s easy to focus on the number on the thermometer. But how your child looks and acts matters, too.

Pay attention to symptoms such as difficulty breathing, unusual sleepiness, dehydration, or other significant changes in behavior.

And for babies younger than 3 months, a temperature of 100.4°F or higher requires prompt medical evaluation.

Knowing the warning signs can help you decide when it’s time to call your pediatrician or seek immediate care.

Getting back into a school routine can make bedtime a challenge.

If your child is fighting sleep, small changes can help create calmer nights. Try keeping bedtime consistent, creating a predictable wind-down routine, and turning off screens at least 60 minutes before bed.

And remember: persistent sleep difficulties that affect your child’s mood, behavior, or daytime activities may be worth discussing with their pediatrician.

New classes, new routines, new activities, there’s a lot happening when kids head back to school!

An annual physical gives your pediatrician an opportunity to check your child’s growth and development, review vaccinations, and discuss any health concerns that may have come up since their last visit.

Reminder: Our office is closing at noon today for our Annual Employee Appreciation gathering. Our offices will be closed for the rest of the afternoon, and our phones will be set to our after-hours greeting. During that time, you can leave a message on voice mail. Our on-call service will still be notifying our physician on-call for urgent matters. Our Lake Bluff and Lindenhurst offices will reopen Saturday, September 12th for our normal Saturday hours. It’s Throwback Thursday! 👶📸

🏙️ Born and raised in Chicago, in the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

🐶 Definitely a dog person. Her family rescues dogs, and Meechie, their boxer/hound mix, is the current family pup. She has plenty of love to give… but only about 3–4 brain cells floating up in the cranium. They always seem to find the dogs that shed every day of the year. If you look at her clothes, you can usually tell what color dog she has at home!

📚 Favorite book: Don’t Bump the Glump by Shel Silverstein. Her kids’ favorite is The Slithergadee.

Back to School means everyone’s talking about Executive Functioning! This book is a great resource for parents of kids with ADHD but also can be used for all children. It breaks down EF as well as has numerous practical worksheets that you and your kids can use or think about together.
