We don't upcharge and we don't guess.

If your labs came back normal and you still don't feel like yourself, that gap is exactly where we start.

Send this to the friend who's been told the same thing.

One of the biggest mistakes I see in wellness?

We get a result we don’t like and immediately ask:

“What can I take to fix this?”

But a lab value changing is information.

A symptom is information.

And even when a supplement helps, I still want to know why your body needed that support in the first place.

That means looking beyond one number or one symptom and asking better questions.

What changed?

What else is happening in the body?

What patterns are we seeing?

And what role could things like stress and the nervous system be playing in the bigger picture?

Because replacing one thing with another based on a guess still leaves us with the same unanswered question:

Why is this happening?

That’s the question I want us asking more often.

Save this for the next time you’re looking at labs, symptoms, or trying to decide what your body needs.

This is so important to know!!

We hear serotonin and immediately think about the brain.

But the vast majority of your body’s serotonin is actually produced in the gut — and it plays an important role in gut motility, secretion, and signaling.

That’s where the conversation gets interesting.

SSRIs change serotonin signaling, which is one reason these medications can also affect digestion. And then there’s another layer: methane.

Certain microorganisms in the gut produce methane, and higher methane levels are associated with slower intestinal transit and constipation.

So when someone is struggling with their mood AND telling me they’re constipated, bloated, or their digestion feels off, I don’t want to ignore the gut.

This isn’t about saying SSRIs are bad or telling someone to stop their medication. It’s about asking a bigger question:

If we’re talking about serotonin, shouldn’t we also be talking about the gut?

That’s why I test instead of guess. 🧪

Postpartum fatigue isn’t always “just because you have a baby.”

Pregnancy and the postpartum period create major shifts in the immune system, and for some women, that can be a time when autoimmune thyroid disease or postpartum thyroiditis becomes apparent.

That’s why I don’t love stopping at TSH alone.

When I’m looking at the thyroid postpartum, I want to see the bigger picture—including TPO antibodies and thyroglobulin antibodies, along with TSH, Free T4, Free T3 and other relevant markers.

Why do the antibodies matter?

Because thyroid antibodies can give us information about autoimmune activity involving the thyroid, even when thyroid hormone levels or TSH don't tell the whole story yet.

And thyroid dysfunction postpartum can show up as symptoms that are incredibly easy to dismiss:

Extreme fatigue
Brain fog
Anxiety or feeling “wired”
Feeling cold
Constipation
Hair changes
Heart palpitations
Difficulty getting your energy back
Or simply feeling like something is off

In this patient's case, her initial testing showed a TSH of 54.2, low thyroid hormones, a TPO antibody level of 126 and thyroglobulin antibodies of 322.

Those antibodies were an important part of understanding what was happening—not just labeling her as a tired new mom.

Postpartum women deserve to be listened to.

And if something feels wrong, I believe we should be asking why.

Don’t just test TSH. Look at the thyroid more comprehensively.
