One of the best ways to ensure a healthy school year for your teen is by scheduling a wellness exam. This annual exam will ensure your teen is healthy and virus-free before heading back to school. Make sure their immunizations are up-to-date, too. Certain vaccinations are also required at at different grade levels. If your teen plays sports, a sports physical is also advised.

Your skin is your body’s largest organ; keep it safe with these quick tips:
✔️ Wear sunscreen daily (SPF 30 or higher)
🕶️ Don’t forget sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat
🌳 Seek shade between 10 AM–4 PM
👕 Cover up with lightweight, long-sleeved clothing

This skin reaction sometimes happens within just a few hours of coming into contact with poison ivy or poison oak. A poison ivy or poison oak rash usually goes away within 1 to 2 weeks. Diabetes usually begins silently, without symptoms, but over time, blood sugars elevate, and excess glucose acts as a slow poison on blood vessels and nerves throughout the body. If left untreated, diabetes can wreak havoc on the body which could lead to nerve and kidney damage, heart disease and stroke, and even vision problems or blindness.

The American Diabetes Association recommends that men “get out, get active, and get informed” and the best way to control diabetes is to eat healthy and exercise. Having regular wellness exams can help ensure that early warning signs of diabetes is caught early.

Summer time is here and so is the heat! Water is the best way to stay hydrated. Drink more water than usual and don't wait until you're thirsty to drink more.

Adding water-dense foods to your diet can also be a source of hydration. Approximately 80% of hydration comes from liquids, while 20% comes from foods. Water-dense foods include celery, cucumbers, strawberries and watermelon.

When you apply sunscreen, use about 1 ounce (a shot glass) to cover your face, arms, neck & legs. If you are doing your chest & back, double the amount of sunscreen you use. Reapply at least every two hours. If you are swimming or sweating, you may need to reapply more frequently.

Protecting yourself from UVA and UVB exposure helps prevent skin cancers, pigmentation issues, and wrinkles.

We’re so excited to welcome Reagan Bourgeois, FNP-C, to our team at Guillermo Family Medicine Clinic!

Originally from Lake Arthur, Louisiana, Reagan brings a strong clinical background in medical and cardiac intensive care, along with experience in the cardiology cath lab. Her passion for patient-centered care and attention to detail make her a wonderful addition to our practice.

Reagan earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McNeese State University and her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, from Herzing University. She is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

At Guillermo Family Medicine Clinic, Reagan provides comprehensive primary care services—including preventive care, chronic disease management, and treatment for acute illnesses—while focusing on whole-person wellness. She is especially passionate about building lasting relationships with her patients and helping them feel confident and supported in their health journey.
