Everyone talks about glutes.

“Activate your glutes.”
“Turn on your glutes.”
“Do more glute bridges.”

But one of the most overlooked aspects of glute activation—it starts with your feet.

More specifically, it starts with your big toe.

Your big toe’s ability to connect with the ground may be one of the most underrated factors in proper glute activation. Without a stable foundation, the rest of the body has to compensate.

Think about it: if your big toe isn’t engaged with the floor, your foot can collapse, your arch loses support, and the entire kinetic chain—ankle, knee, and hip—can fall out of alignment. When that happens, your glutes simply can’t function at their best.

The glutes don’t work in isolation. They rely on a stable platform to generate force, absorb impact, and support movement. And that platform begins where your body meets the ground.

This becomes even more important as we age. Many adults experience decreased foot mobility, ankle stiffness, and diminished proprioception (your body’s awareness of position and movement). Over time, these changes can reduce your ability to create a strong connection with the floor.

At Awaken Stretch Therapy, we’re less concerned with building bigger glutes and more focused on building glutes that work.

Glutes that help you:

* Walk confidently
* Climb stairs with ease
* Pick up your grandchildren
* Enjoy hiking and recreational activities
* Improve balance and stability
* Reduce the risk of injury

And it all starts from the ground up.

Glutes that help you:

* Walk confidently
* Climb stairs with ease
* Pick up your grandchildren
* Enjoy hiking and recreational activities
* Improve balance and stability
* Reduce the risk of injury

And it all starts from the ground up.

Try This:

1. Big Toe Press Hold
Stand barefoot with your feet hip-width apart. Press your big toes firmly into the ground while maintaining your arch. Hold for 10–15 seconds and repeat for 3 sets.

Ask yourself: Does your posture change when you actively engage your big toe?

2. Glute Bridge with Ground Awareness
Before beginning each rep, think: “Big toe into the ground.”

Perform 8–12 repetitions and notice whether your glutes engage differently when your foot is properly connected to the floor.

3. Carry It Into Everyday Movement
As you squat, lunge, or deadlift, pay attention to your feet. Creating awareness through your big toe can dramatically improve stability and movement efficiency.

4. Improve Big Toe Mobility
Place your big toe against a wall and gently drive your knee forward until you feel a stretch through the toe and foot.

5. Wear barefoot shoes. When we put our feet in shoes that restrict our natural foot movement, we lose strength, stability, and mobility within the foot and ankle. The loss of function at the ground will eventually trickle upstream.

Limited big toe and foot mobility often means a compromised connection to the ground.

The next time someone tells you to “squeeze your glutes,” remember this:

Your body doesn’t activate from the top down—it activates from the ground up.

Start with the big toe. Build a stronger foundation. Everything above it will thank you.

Fascia Stretch Therapy is so much more than traditional stretching.🕸️

Unlike static stretching, this unique technique works with the body’s fascial lines, helping improve mobility, flexibility, and overall movement quality. By incorporating targeted techniques that reach deeper into the joints and communicate with the nervous system, Fascia Stretch Therapy helps the body move and function the way it was designed to.🫆

Adults Shouldn’t Stop Crawling. 🐻

Somewhere along the way, we decided crawling was just for babies. But what if one of the most important movement patterns for lifelong strength, mobility, and joint health was something we abandoned far too soon?

Quadruped crawling is one of the most effective full-body exercises you can do. It builds the deep stabilizing muscles that protect your body during everyday movement—not just the muscles you see in the mirror.

When you crawl, you’re training:
✅ Core stability to support your spine and improve posture.
✅ Hip stability for better balance, stronger movement, and injury prevention.
✅ Shoulder stability by strengthening the muscles that keep your shoulders healthy and resilient.
✅ Ankle stability to improve balance, walking mechanics, and overall lower-body function.
✅ Toe and foot mobility by allowing the toes to bend, spread, and grip the ground the way they were designed to. Healthy feet are the foundation for healthy movement throughout the entire body.

Crawling also improves coordination between the left and right sides of your body, enhances body awareness, and reinforces efficient movement patterns that many adults lose over time.

Movement isn’t just about getting stronger—it’s about moving the way your body was designed to move.

At Awaken Stretch Therapy, we believe longevity starts with restoring natural movement patterns. Sometimes, that means going back to the basics.

So don’t be afraid to get on the floor. Your body will thank you. 💪

Are you constantly stressed, tensed, and/or anxious? 😓

It may be your body’s nervous system asking for attention.

Our focus extends beyond the fascia, targeting the nervous system, which for many individuals is predominantly in a state of heightened sympathetic activity.

By utilizing Fascial Stretch Therapy to regulate the nervous system, we enable the fascia and body to perceive safety, thereby enhancing mobility and movement while concurrently reducing stress levels and promoting optimal sleep quality.

FST is not just about increasing mobility.
It’s about mobility, restoring symmetry in the body, stress relief, nervous system regulation, releasing stored trauma, and so much more✨

Why settle for static stretching when you can treat the source of the restriction?

Static stretching only targets the muscle.
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is different.

FST works with your body’s connective tissue—the fascia—which surrounds every muscle, joint, nerve, and organ. Restrictions in the fascia can limit mobility, create stiffness, contribute to pain, and affect how your entire body moves.

During an FST session, we use gentle, assisted movement to target the fascial system and create space within the joints. Instead of simply holding a stretch, we move your body through multiple planes of motion to improve mobility, decrease tension, and help your body move the way it was designed to.

✨ Benefits of Fascial Stretch Therapy:
• Improve flexibility without forcing a stretch
• Increase joint mobility and range of motion
• Reduce pain and stiffness
• Improve posture and movement patterns
• Enhance athletic performance and recovery
• Leave your body feeling lighter, freer, and more balanced

Your body is connected from head to toe. When you treat the fascia, you’re not just stretching a muscle—you’re improving the way your entire body functions.
