In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are celebrating saints like Saint Teresa de Jesus de Los Andes.

Born Juana Enriqueta Josefina Fernández Solar in Santiago, Chile, in 1900, Teresa is remembered as a joyful and devoted witness to Christ. Known by many as Juanita, she grew up in a faithful family and felt drawn to God from a young age.

At fourteen, she sensed a call to religious life, and in 1919 she entered the Discalced Carmelite monastery in Los Andes, receiving the name Teresa of Jesus. Though her time in Carmel was brief, her life was marked by prayer and generosity.

Teresa died in 1920 at age 19 after an intense illness. Canonized in 1993, she became the first Chilean saint and remains a powerful reminder that holiness is possible through faith, love and everyday devotion to God.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are celebrating saints like Saint Rose of Lima.

Born Isabel Flores de Oliva in Lima, Peru, in 1586, Rose became the first canonized saint of the Western Hemisphere. From childhood, she was known for her deep love of God, devotion to prayer and commitment to a life centered on Christ.

Inspired by Saint Catherine of Siena, Rose chose a life of sacrifice, humility and service. Though her family hoped she would marry, she remained devoted to her vow of virginity and later received the habit of Saint Dominic.

Rose’s life of prayer never closed her heart to others. She helped support her family through embroidery and lacework, and her days were marked by charity work and devotion. Canonized in 1671, Saint Rose of Lima remains a beloved witness of faith and love for God.

As a registered nurse, Jarrett Constance demonstrates the core value of excellence through his dedication to sepsis care. Recognized as a sepsis champion, Jarrett has achieved a zero contamination rate in blood-culture collection while supporting accurate results and appropriate treatment for patients.

As we wrap up Sepsis Awareness Month, he encourages others to recognize the signs of Sepsis quickly, using the acronym TIME:

T: Temperature – Is your body temperature higher or lower than normal?
I: Infection – Do you have signs or symptoms of an infection?
M: Mental decline – Are you feeling confused or excessively sleepy?
E: Extremely ill – Do you have severe pain, discomfort or a feeling that something is seriously wrong?

During AFib Awareness Month, Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. Brian Greet reminds others that some people with AFib may not experience any symptoms. Affecting an estimated 12.1 million Americans, symptoms that do occur include a fast or irregular fluttering heartbeat, shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, and chest discomfort. Risk increases with age and can be associated with high blood pressure, heart disease, heart failure, diabetes, obesity, sleep apnea, thyroid problems, excessive alcohol use, and certain medications or stimulants. Dr. Greet says understanding your symptoms and risk factors can help you take a more proactive approach to your heart health.

This month we're celebrating the strength of families like Brianne Vital's and the incredible journeys that begin inside our NICU.

When her twins arrived unexpectedly at just 30 weeks and 6 days, their family was thrust into a world they never anticipated. From breathing support and tube feedings to learning how to eat on their own, every milestone was hard-earned. Through it all, Brianne balanced caring for six other children while finding comfort in the AngelEye cameras, allowing her to check on her babies around the clock when she couldn't be at their bedside.

Now, after weeks of expert care, countless prayers, and unwavering support from our NICU team, it's finally time to go home.

"As a NICU mom, I never realized how much these tiny babies and their families go through," Brianne shared. "The nurses have been amazing. I'm so grateful for everyone who helped care for my babies."

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are celebrating saints like Saint Óscar Romero.

Born in El Salvador in 1917, Romero became one of Latin America’s most courageous voices for justice, peace and human dignity. Though he was once viewed as cautious, his leadership changed after he became archbishop in 1977 and witnessed the violence and suffering inflicted on the poor.

Romero began preaching boldly against violence, corruption and the abuse of the powerless, knowing his words could cost him his life. His defense of the poor and vulnerable earned admiration around the world, including a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

On March 24, 1980, while celebrating Mass, Romero was assassinated. Declared a martyr and canonized in 2018, Saint Óscar Romero remains a prophetic witness to justice, peace and the Gospel’s call to love and defend the vulnerable.

This NICU Awareness Month, we’re recognizing the incredible strength of NICU babies, their families, and the care teams who support them every step of the way. It was during a fetal medicine visit that Mariah Brooks first learned she was at risk for preterm labor due to a short cervix. Despite two previous pregnancies without complications, she soon delivered her first preterm baby when Baby Maverick was born via emergency C-section at just 25 weeks.

He would face several challenges during his 77-day stay, including oxygen support, a hole in his heart and abnormal blood vessel growth in his eyes that required treatment. Not knowing what to expect, Mariah said she was terrified, but found comfort and reassurance in our NICU team, who she described as phenomenal. Because our AngelEye camera system allows families to stay virtually connected to their little ones 24/7, no matter where they are, Mariah and Maverick’s two older sisters were never far away.

Today, more than three months after his birth, Maverick is home, doing well as the hole in his heart is closing on its own. Mariah says she is grateful for the care her family received and for the help in navigating an unexpected NICU journey with confidence and hope.
