Today for we are talking about one of my favorite topics: Traditional Chinese Medicine vs Modern (Allopathic) Medicine.
In my opinion, it's not a competition of either/or, but an integration of both/and. TCM treats the whole person using signs and symptoms to discern underlying organ pattern disharmonies, while Modern Medicine focuses on symptom relief, usually through the use of pharmaceuticals or surgeries. TCM is not only corrective, but preventative medicine. Allopathic medicine does not pay much attention to prevention, but it is the best emergency medicine.
There are many instances where TCM and allopathic medicine work in combination. The ones I see most often in my clinic include post surgical recovery, pain management, and infertility assistance.
I do believe that TCM is better at assisting with stress management, emotional regulation, digestive issues, migraine headache management, insomnia and sleep issues, and maintaining overall health, peppermint but I never hesitate to send people to their primary care physician when I suspect something is beyond TCM's capabilities or I encounter a medical red flag.
