My favorite add on to acupuncture is moxibustion, a form of heat therapy that deeply penetrates the body to alleviate pain, reduce swelling, and warm what's cold. Today I used moxa on patients for low energy, knee pain (seen here), sluggish digestion, and as part of a fertility treatment. ✨🖤 Natural Alternatives Center for Wellness

I was asked if I prefer pins or herbal formulas for patients for . My answer depends on the situation. If a patient is brand new, coming in for the first time, I like to see how their body responds to a couple appointments of just pins before prescribing a formula. But if they are a dermatology patient, internal medicine is required, so those patients immediately get an herbal prescription. 🌈

This humid weather has got me feeling 🥵. Today's album choice was easy. I love this record for so many reasons. Even though I like Lick better, it's a Shame About Ray hits me right in the heart.

Do I assign my patients homework? You bet I do. Acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine are so much more than what happens in the treatment room. I encourage my patients to be active participants in the healing process and often assign homework.

And lately, I've been assigning this very simple homework: eat breakfast. Cortisol issues? Eat breakfast. Insulin resistance issues? Eat breakfast. Trying to conceive? Eat breakfast Peri- and post-menopausal weight gain around the middle? Eat breakfast. Blood deficient? Eat breakfast. Want to have energy throughout the day? Eat breakfast. And I'm not talking a protein bar or a smoothie. I mean a warm breakfast that includes protein, healthy fat, and some fruit or vegetables. Three minutes still cut oats with some berries, a nectarine or peach, and a small handful of cashews or walnuts. Scrambled eggs with spinach, curled parsley, and feta cheese. Easy.

Today for we are talking about one of my favorite topics: Traditional Chinese Medicine vs Modern (Allopathic) Medicine.
In my opinion, it's not a competition of either/or, but an integration of both/and. TCM treats the whole person using signs and symptoms to discern underlying organ pattern disharmonies, while Modern Medicine focuses on symptom relief, usually through the use of pharmaceuticals or surgeries. TCM is not only corrective, but preventative medicine. Allopathic medicine does not pay much attention to prevention, but it is the best emergency medicine.
There are many instances where TCM and allopathic medicine work in combination. The ones I see most often in my clinic include post surgical recovery, pain management, and infertility assistance.
I do believe that TCM is better at assisting with stress management, emotional regulation, digestive issues, migraine headache management, insomnia and sleep issues, and maintaining overall health, peppermint but I never hesitate to send people to their primary care physician when I suspect something is beyond TCM's capabilities or I encounter a medical red flag.

Today's selection spinning in the acupuncture clinic is The Raconteurs' "Broken Boy Soldiers" in honor of my daughter. She was three years old singing "Steady as She Goes" in the back seat of the car as we drove 1000 miles to New Mexico so I could start acupuncture school. She moved away to college this week and is finding her own way in this world, but for me a part of her will always be the tiny girl singing along with Jack White.

Let's kick off by introducing the team behind Roots to Blooms Acupuncture & Wellness. It's me, Jessica, I'm the team. 🤩
I've been an acupuncturist and traditional East Asian medicine herbalist for seven years. I've helped hundreds of people in the Lake Geneva area and beyond during that time. I LOVE this medicine and what it can do for even the most complicated health issues. It is never lost on me that people have many choices of healthcare providers. So it is truly a privilege and an honor when people decide to include me on their healthcare team. And why should they? Because I'm damn good at what I do. So bring me your complex health issues, your digestive dysfunction, your skincare questions, and your spiritual and physical pain. And be prepared to transform. ✨🖤
