I bought a decades-old bottle of perfume on the internet in the name of science. 🧪

Hear me out. 😂

A while back, I was asked to recreate the original Lauren by Ralph Lauren, a gorgeous, complex fragrance that’s been discontinued for years.

Recreating vintage perfume is a little like restoring an old painting. You’re working around ingredients that no longer exist or can’t be used, reformulations that happened along the way, and someone’s very personal memory of how it used to smell.

So I tracked down an actual vintage bottle of Lauren to compare my formula side by side. This bottle is potentially over 40 years old!

I LOVE this part of perfumery, the history, the chemistry, the nostalgia, and figuring out how to bring something lost back to life.
