Loneliness can affect adolescents, adults, parents, professionals, and older adults. It does not always mean someone has no people around them. Sometimes it means they do not feel understood, included, supported, or able to be themselves in their relationships.
For a young person, loneliness might show up during a school transition, friendship change, or period of feeling left out. For adults, it may follow a move, relationship change, demanding season of life, or difficulty maintaining friendships.
Small opportunities for connection can matter. That might mean checking in with someone, participating in a recurring activity, spending time with a trusted person, or being honest about needing more support.
