When your family member passes away and you have chosen cremation, but you also want to honor the life of your loved one, what are your options? What is the difference between a memorial service vs a traditional cremation?
Memorial Service/ Celebration of Life
A memorial Service/ celebration of life is the most common option when cremation is chosen. It offers a traditional funeral-like experience, just without your loved one physically present. This type of service allows family and friends to come together, reflect, and celebrate a life well lived—without the formality of a casketed ceremony. You can display photos, mementos that your loved one collected (action figures, NSCAR/sports memorabilia etc.), hobbies they loved(bring in fishing poles, golf clubs, baseball mitt etc.), anything that would represent your loved one and who they were.
Traditional Cremation
Traditional Cremation closely follows the structure of a traditional funeral, with one key difference: instead of going to a cemetery for burial, cremation occurs after the service. Your loved one is prepared and cared for in a way that allows for a viewing and a funeral is held with a casket present. You can display photos, mementos that your loved one collected and hobbies they loved, anything that would represent your loved one and who they were.
