Have you ever told yourself, 'It's probably nothing'?

"I'm probably just tired."

"It's probably stress."

"I'll deal with it later."

Life gets busy, and it's easy to put your own health on the back burner.

While these symptoms don't always point to a serious condition, they can sometimes be your body's way of telling you that something deserves a closer look.

💜 Three symptoms worth mentioning at your next visit:

✔ Constant fatigue that doesn't improve with rest

✔ Irregular or unusually heavy periods

✔ Persistent bloating or stomach discomfort

You know your body better than anyone else. If something feels different, lasts longer than expected, or simply doesn't seem right, don't ignore it.

Taking care of yourself isn't selfish—it's an important part of staying healthy for yourself and the people who count on you.

Chronic diseases don’t always show on the outside, but they can affect daily life in a big way.

Conditions like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, Crohn’s disease, and other long-term health conditions can require ongoing care, support, and early attention. Chronic Disease Day helps raise awareness for those living with these conditions and reminds us how important prevention and routine care can be.

At Suncoast Community Health Centers, we’re here to help you take care of your health before small concerns become bigger ones.

A few ways to support your health:
✅ Schedule routine checkups
✅ Know your numbers
✅ Stay active
✅ Eat balanced meals
✅ Know your family health history

✅ Talk to your provider about any concerns

Your health is not something to put on the “I’ll deal with it later” list. Let’s take care of it together. 💙

Florida heat is not playing around. ☀️🔥

During the summer, Florida temperatures often sit in the upper 80s to low 100s, and in July and August it’s common to see daily ranges around 73°F to 95°F, plus humidity that makes it feel even hotter.

Too much heat can lead to dehydration, fainting, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Heat exhaustion symptoms can include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache, muscle cramps, and fainting. If symptoms get worse, last longer than an hour, or the person vomits, medical care is needed.

Heat stroke is more serious and can become life-threatening. Warning signs can include confusion, very high body temperature, passing out, hot skin, rapid pulse, or loss of consciousness. Call 911 right away.

And yes, people really do end up needing emergency care because of the heat. The CDC reported that heat-related emergency department visits increased during the 2023 warm-season months, especially among adults ages 18–64.

Protect yourself before the heat wins:
💧 Drink water throughout the day (lots of water)
🧢 Wear light clothing and a hat
🌳 Take breaks in the shade or AC
🧴 Use sunscreen and reapply (and reapply, and reapply, and keep reapplying)
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked car
🥵 Don’t ignore dizziness, nausea, weakness, confusion, or fainting

Florida summer may be hot, but your health should stay cool, hydrated, and cared for.

Find a walking buddy and take those steps together.
Walking may seem simple, but those steps add up! Whether it’s around the block, through the park, or during your lunch break, walking can help support heart health, boost your mood, improve circulation, and give your mind a much-needed reset.
Fun step facts:
👟 A 10-minute walk can help clear your head and get your body moving.
👟 Walking after meals may help with digestion and blood sugar balance.
👟 Small walks throughout the day still count, you don’t have to do it all at once.
👟 The average person takes about 2,000 steps to walk one mile.
👟 A walking buddy can help keep you motivated and make the walk feel easier.
So grab a friend, a coworker, your kid, or even your dog, and get moving. Your body will thank you later!

Sunscreen vs. Sunblock: What’s the difference? ☀️
They both help protect your skin, but here’s how they are different:
1. How they work:
Sunscreen absorbs UV rays before they damage the skin. Sunblock creates a protective layer that helps block UV rays.
2. Texture:
Sunscreen is usually lighter and easier to rub in. Sunblock can feel thicker and may leave a white cast.
3. Ingredients:
Sunscreen often uses chemical ingredients. Sunblock usually contains minerals like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
4. Best use:
Sunscreen is great for daily use. Sunblock may be a good option for sensitive skin, kids, or longer outdoor days.
5. How it feels on the skin:
Sunscreen may feel smoother under makeup or moisturizer. Sunblock may feel heavier but can be gentler for sensitive skin.
6. Visibility:
Sunscreen usually blends in more easily. Sunblock may leave that classic “white nose at the beach” look.
7. When to apply:
Sunscreen is best applied before sun exposure. Sunblock starts protecting once it is applied correctly.
8. Skin sensitivity:
Some people with sensitive skin may prefer mineral-based options like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
No matter which one you choose, look for broad-spectrum protection, use enough, and reapply every 2 hoursm, especially if you’re sweating or swimming.
Your skin is counting on you!

It’s National Fried Chicken Day! 🍗
We love a crispy piece of fried chicken as much as anyone, but your arteries might be asking for a side of moderation.
Too much fried food can contribute to high cholesterol, high blood pressure, weight gain, and heart health concerns over time. Enjoy your favorites, but balance them with healthier choices, regular checkups, and knowing your numbers.
Because fried chicken is delicious, but so is staying healthy enough to enjoy it again later.

**FYI: All of our clinics are closed in observance of 4th of July**

Today we celebrate Independence Day with family, food, fireworks, cookouts, red-white-and-blue outfits, and at least one person who says, “I know how to work the grill.”

As you enjoy the holiday, here are a few fun facts:
✨ The Declaration of Independence was officially adopted on July 4, 1776.
✨ The first 4th of July celebration took place in Philadelphia in 1777.
✨ Fireworks became part of the celebration very early on, because apparently we have always loved making the sky dramatic. 🎆
✨ Americans eat millions of hot dogs during 4th of July celebrations every year. So yes, the hot dog table is basically part of history.
While you celebrate, don’t forget the not-so-boring but very important reminders: drink water, wear sunscreen, be careful around fireworks, watch kids closely near pools or beaches, and please let the grill cool down before anyone gets “creative.”
Wishing everyone a safe, fun, and healthy 4th of July! 🇺🇸✨
