Just in case anyone was wondering how seriously I take hair trends… 😂

A lice egg—also called a nit—is only about 1/32 of an inch long, or less than 1 millimeter. That’s roughly the size of a tiny knot in a piece of thread!

Now imagine trying to find one attached to a single strand of hair, close to the scalp. Unlike dandruff or loose debris, a nit is firmly glued to the hair and won’t easily brush away.

This is why lice eggs can be so easy to miss during an at-home head check—and why proper lighting, careful sectioning and a trained eye make such a difference. 🔎

Yes—those are two head lice mating underwater.

Head lice can survive underwater for several hours, which is why regular shampooing, bathing or swimming will not eliminate an infestation. Water alone is not a lice treatment!
