As riders return to trails, parks, and lift-accessed terrain, NSP-trained bike patrollers support safe outdoor recreation.

Through NSP’s Bike Program, they build the skills needed to respond in dynamic summer environments—from rider assistance and incident response to trail awareness and on-scene decision-making. Their education prepares them to serve wherever outdoor recreation takes them.

NSP’s commitment to safety doesn’t stop when the snow melts. It shifts to a different trail.

Competition was only part of the story.

This season, we are thankful for our NSP ambassador-athletes who brought the red jacket to races, clinics, community events, and patrol work across the country.

Their impact went beyond results. Through service, education, and outreach, these patrollers helped show what NSP leadership looks like in today’s mountain culture.

This Memorial Day, we honor the service members who gave their lives for our country.

Across NSP, many members with military service bring specialized skills to their patrol work, including leadership under pressure, emergency response, risk assessment, teamwork, and decision-making in challenging environments. These skills strengthen patrol teams and support NSP’s mission in educating those dedicated to service in emergency care for outdoor environments.

We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and thank all who carry their legacy forward.

This National EMS Week, NSP recognizes the vital work of our Outdoor Emergency Care providers, EMTs, paramedics, and emergency medical professionals who deliver lifesaving care across the country.

These providers undertake rigorous training programs, which prepares them to assess injuries, provide emergency care, and respond effectively in challenging outdoor environments.

We extend a special thank you to the NSP patrollers who bring medical training, field experience, and calm decision-making to the mountain. Their work strengthens patrol teams and helps keep skiers, riders, and outdoor communities safe.

For EMS professionals, staying current with continuing education is essential—and we are proud to support that commitment through CAPCE-accredited courses.

CAPCE (Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education) helps ensure EMS training meets consistent national standards, with credits accepted by most states for continuing education requirements. As acceptance can vary, patrollers should confirm details with their state EMS agency or the National Registry of EMTs.

NSP Members: Take the next step in managing your professional development.

This National Bike Month, we recognize the patrollers who help keep outdoor spaces safer for all.

NSP education courses prepare bike patrollers to provide medical care in outdoor environments, where strong assessment skills, sound decision-making, and effective response can make a critical difference. This training helps patrollers deliver care with confidence across varied terrain and conditions.

As more communities expand access to biking and outdoor recreation, the role of trained bike patrollers continues to grow. Thank you to the patrollers who serve on trails nationwide and to the instructors who help prepare them for the work.

From first tracks to real-world response, avalanche dog teams are a critical part of mountain safety.

This season, 15 patrols across the country were supported through the NSP + NARD Avalanche Dog Grant, advancing training, certification, and readiness nationwide.

We’re incredibly grateful to for making this work possible and for their ongoing commitment to these teams.
