When Horses Can’t Tell Us What Hurts… We Listen Closely 🐴💛

This week Rigby experienced a colic episode—which is a general term used to describe abdominal pain in horses. Colic can be caused by a variety of things like gas buildup, dehydration, intestinal blockages, or even stress. Because of the way a horse’s digestive system works, these issues can become serious very quickly.

We noticed the signs—restlessness, discomfort, and not acting like himself—and knew we needed to act fast.
Our vet came out and had to pass a tube through his nose into his stomach (called “tubing”) to help relieve pressure and give fluids directly where they were needed. While it may look uncomfortable, this procedure can be lifesaving and often brings horses immediate relief.

Why this matters:
Colic is one of the leading medical emergencies in horses. Without prompt care, it can become severe or even life-threatening. Early intervention can be the difference between a quick recovery and a much more serious outcome.

We’re so thankful for attentive care, quick action, and a strong horse who is already starting to feel better. 💛

Always trust your instincts—if something feels off with your horse, don’t wait.
