While embalming is not required in most situations, it is often recommended when a public viewing or visitation is planned.

Embalming helps preserve a loved one's appearance, slows the natural changes that occur after death, and helps provide a more comfortable environment for family and friends during visitation.

If a family chooses not to embalm, they may be asked to sign an acknowledgment form confirming that their options and the natural changes that can occur have been explained.
