Please join Dr. Cori Takesue, Lanai Community Health Center’s Chief Behavioral Health Officer and board member of the American Foundation of Su***de Prevention-Hawai‘i Chapter, tomorrow for a sign waving event that brings awareness to su***de prevention.
We will meet by the flagpole at Dole Building from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.
Bring your own signs or use one of ours (come at 4 pm if you want to make a sign).
September is National Su***de Prevention and Awareness Month.
Su***de continues to be a serious and persistent public health concern in Hawai‘i. The most recent results from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) showed an estimated 13.9 million U.S. adults aged 18 or older had serious thoughts of su***de in 2025. In Hawai‘i, su***de is the tenth-leading cause of death overall. Adults aged 25-34 years old have the highest rate of su***de.
Su***de impacts everyone and can have lasting emotional, mental, physical and economic impacts on individuals, families, and communities.
Let’s come together as a community, strengthen our connections to each other, and save lives.
