Getting ready for the out-of-order eating and body struggles retreat and training on Friday and Saturday in .
Yes, I’m looking to books -- including my own -- in my library to inspire me, but the truth is food and body and food struggles aren't about books as much as about a set of somatic experiences.
Working with "eating disorders" -- as mainstream mental health calls them-- is highly somatic, and we must be willing to go there with the people we work with.
Psychodrama and other action methods are brilliant for this. Too often we ask people to think about and analyze what does out-of-order eating mean and we give work sheets, we give little activities to "do," or better "diets," but it’s really about our relationship with ourselves and with The Other, which we can work with through the role playing of psychodrama and the sociometry of our relationships.
After years of living, working and writing about these topics, I've come to the that it's all somatic, and we will never ever really reach the healing through analysis.
In my workshops, I put together a plan and then become willing to improvise, according to what people bring, what people need and what they want to learn, both for themselves and for the people they work with.
Still a few openings for the training -- one or two days --and you can register here: https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/lancasterpsychodrama/out-of-order-eating
