Someone exploring their options. Someone navigating a complicated system. Someone discovering they may have access to resources they didn't know were available.

In June, 32 individuals were connected to benefits navigation and support through Specialty Programs.

When someone is facing a health concern, behavioral health or substance use challenge, financial hardship, or another unexpected life circumstance, understanding insurance, benefits, financial assistance, and available community resources can feel overwhelming.

Questions often outnumber answers, and knowing where to begin isn't always clear.

Behind each connection is a conversation, a question answered, an application completed, or a barrier removed. Through education, advocacy, and resource navigation, our staff work alongside participants and community partners to help people better understand their options, access available resources, and connect with the care and support they need.

Sometimes, the first step toward accessing care isn't having all the answers—it's having someone willing to help you find them.

Meet Steve 🩵

Steve was introduced to drugs and alcohol at 10 years old and experienced his first overdose at 12. His journey included incarceration, homelessness, and a time when he truly believed there was no hope.

Today, he has two years in recovery and is a testament to what is possible.

Where we've been doesn't have to determine where we're going. đź’™

When someone is facing a behavioral health or substance use crisis, the biggest barrier isn't always asking for help—it can be knowing where to start.

Many aren’t aware that community resources and county-funded behavioral health services may be available for individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or experiencing financial barriers.

Understanding eligibility, navigating available resources, and knowing who to call can feel overwhelming, especially during a crisis.

Our team works alongside individuals to help them understand their options, navigate available resources, and connect with trusted community partners - so they can access the support that's available to them.

Sometimes, the first step isn't having all the answers. It's knowing someone can help you find them.

What happens when we stop asking people to simply come to services — and start meeting them where they are?

That’s part of what makes a community partnership with Hand Up Partners so meaningful.

Based in Lancaster, Hand Up Partners works alongside people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, and barriers to employment — creating practical opportunities for people to build stability, connection, and a sense of purpose.

From street outreach and housing support to workforce development and The Grow Room, HUP creates spaces where relationships come first and opportunity can follow.

Through initiatives like HUP Cleans Up, people can earn income while building consistency, confidence, responsibility, and connections to longer-term employment. And through their street outreach, individuals can connect with housing, employment, recovery, transportation, identification, benefits, and other resources right where they are.

For Specialty Programs, partnerships like this are a viral part of how we support people beyond a single service or point of contact. We connect, collaborate, and work alongside community partners to help people access the resources and opportunities that matter in their everyday lives.

Lasting change happens when a community comes together.

We are incredibly grateful to Hand Up Partners for the innovation, care, and heart they bring to this work every day.

Your commitment to creating opportunity, building relationships, and finding new ways to support our neighbors is inspiring, empowering, and change-making. 🙏🏽

Understanding insurance, benefits, and available resources can be daunting and confusing—especially during a difficult season of life, a behavioral health or substance use challenge, or another time of crisis.

Many people aren't aware of the benefits, financial assistance programs, or community resources that may be available to them, while others may assume they don't qualify or don't know where to begin.

Whether it's helping someone understand health insurance, explore medical and dental benefits, complete applications, gather documentation, or connect with trusted community partners and support services, our team works alongside individuals to navigate available resources and access the support that best fits their needs.

When barriers are reduced and people are connected with the right resources, access to care becomes more attainable.

Behind every connection is someone gaining access to new opportunities.

Someone getting to a healthcare appointment. Someone making it to work. Someone attending treatment. Someone staying connected to the people and services that support their well-being.

In the month of June, 15 individuals were connected to transportation resources and support through Specialty Programs.

Transportation is about more than getting from one place to another. It reflects the strength of trusted relationships, the dedication of our staff, the determination of individuals working toward their goals, and the invaluable support of our community partners who help remove barriers and expand access to opportunity.

Progress is rarely the result of one person or one organization. It's built through individuals who keep showing up, staff who continue walking alongside them, community partners who help bridge the gaps, and a community that believes access creates opportunity.

Every connection tells a story. Every mile traveled represents possibility. And every person deserves the opportunity to keep moving forward. 🩵

Felicia didn't think she could find recovery in her own hometown. đź’™

Today, she is part of a community that supports her recovery — and she's helping show others what's possible.

We're grateful Felicia shared her story with us.

Recovery happens in our communities, every day.

Sometimes, the biggest barrier isn't the opportunity itself—it's having a way to get there.

For many people, reliable transportation is what makes it possible to attend a medical appointment, participate in treatment, get to work, continue their education, prepare for a driver's permit or driver's license, or access the community resources they rely on.

When transportation becomes a barrier, opportunities can become harder to reach.

By helping people understand available transportation resources and connecting them with community supports, we can reduce barriers and create more pathways toward independence, stability, and well-being.

đź’™ Sometimes, moving forward begins with knowing how to get there.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT | LG HEALTH STREET MEDICINE đź’™

Care doesn't always happen in a clinic. Sometimes, the most meaningful care starts by showing up where people are.

Today, we had the opportunity to spend time alongside the Lancaster General Health Street Medicine Team, who bring health care and support directly into the community for people experiencing homelessness.

Their work is about more than providing medical care. It's about building relationships, listening to what people need, connecting individuals with resources, and working alongside community partners to make care more accessible.

That’s what makes partnerships like this so important. When we work together, we can reach people who might otherwise face barriers to care and support.

We're grateful to work alongside Dr. Jared Nissley, Nurse Case Manager Kara DeJesus, and Nurse Practitioner Bianca Cruz, and especially grateful to have our own Lynn Schaffer, CRS, PA, EMT-B alongside them in this work.

Different organizations. One community. Grateful to be part of the work happening here. đź’™

Thank you, LG Health Street Medicine, for showing what it looks like to meet people where they are — with care, dignity, and compassion.

Opportunities are only meaningful if people can access them.

A job interview, a counseling appointment, a healthcare visit, or a driver's license test can all become difficult to reach when transportation is a barrier.

Transportation barriers can affect nearly every part of someone's life. They can make it harder to get to work, attend healthcare appointments, participate in treatment, prepare for a driver's permit or driver's license, learn to use public transportation independently, or stay connected to the resources that support long-term stability.

At Specialty Programs, we work alongside individuals to understand the barriers they're facing and connect them with transportation resources, community services, and ongoing support. By helping people navigate available options and strengthening connections with trusted community partners, we help expand access to the services, relationships, and opportunities that support greater independence.

Getting somewhere is only one step. Staying connected to employment, healthcare, recovery, education, and community support is what helps people continue moving forward.
