Depression does not always look the way people expect it to. It can show up in subtle ways that are easy to brush off as stress, exhaustion, burnout, or simply “having a lot going on.”

Some commonly overlooked signs can include:

😤 Increased irritability or frustration
🧍 Pulling away from family or friends
💼 Staying constantly busy to avoid slowing down
😴 Fatigue, headaches, or other physical symptoms
🍷 Using alcohol or substances to cope
📉 Loss of motivation or emotional connection

These signs are often overlooked because many people become so used to pushing through that they ignore what their mind and body may be trying to communicate.

If any of this sounds familiar to you or someone you care about, contact us to learn more about our services or to schedule an appointment!

Mental health and physical health are closely connected, and the gut-brain connection is one example of how the body can influence emotional well-being.

Research continues to explore how digestion, inflammation, nutrition, stress, and the microbiome may all play a role in mood and overall mental health.

At Integrative NP in Psychiatry, we take a holistic and evidence-based approach to care through nutrition support, lifestyle guidance, supplements, and specialized lab testing to better understand what may be contributing to symptoms both mentally and physically!🙌🥕🍉

The Power of Meditation🧘‍♀️

Meditation is not about “clearing your mind” or doing it perfectly. It is about creating intentional moments to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and give your nervous system a chance to reset.

In a world that constantly encourages people to stay busy and overstimulated, taking time to pause can have a positive impact on both mental and physical health. Meditation can help reduce stress, improve focus, support emotional regulation, and create a greater sense of calm throughout the day. Even a few quiet minutes focused on breathing or mindfulness can help the mind and body slow down.

Meditation does not have to look a certain way to be beneficial. Sitting quietly, focusing on your breath, listening to calming music, or practicing mindfulness during everyday moments all count. Sometimes the smallest pauses in the day are the ones that help people feel the most grounded.💜

Poor sleep can affect far more than energy levels. It can impact concentration, emotional regulation, stress tolerance, memory, motivation, and overall mood. Over time, disrupted sleep may leave the mind and body feeling constantly depleted.

Mental health and sleep are closely connected, which is why ongoing sleep struggles should not be ignored or brushed off as simply “being tired.” Difficulty falling asleep, waking throughout the night, restless sleep, or never feeling fully rested can all affect daily functioning and emotional well-being.

At Integrative NP in Psychiatry, we look at the full picture when it comes to mental health, including the role sleep, stress, lifestyle habits, and physical health may be playing in how someone feels day to day.🛏️💤

Kendra is the kind of provider who makes people feel genuinely seen, heard, and cared for.

Her background in emergency medicine gave her firsthand experience with how deeply mental health impacts overall well-being and how many people struggle without the support they truly need. That understanding is what led her to pursue psychiatry and become the compassionate provider she is today.

What we appreciate most about Kendra is the way she approaches care with empathy and intention. She takes the time to listen, create a safe space for her patients, and look at the full picture instead of focusing only on symptoms. Her approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and centered around helping people feel supported without judgment.

Kendra offers psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive care for adults 18+ through both in-person and telehealth appointments. The care, patience, and compassion she brings to her patients every day are just a few of the many reasons we feel so lucky to have her on our team!🌸💗

Reaching out for support is a big step, and we know starting somewhere new can bring a mix of emotions.

Your first appointment is a chance to slow down, share your story, talk through what’s been weighing on you, and discuss what you’re hoping to gain through care and support. There’s no pressure to have all the answers or know exactly where to begin.

From the moment you reach out, our goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, heard, and genuinely cared for.

Anxiety has a way of pulling us out of the present and into a spiral.🧠🌿

These techniques work because they speak directly to your nervous system, meeting you exactly where you are.

Screenshot this and come back to it whenever anxiety starts to creep in. Everyone's body responds differently, so try a few and see what clicks for you.
