N TOUCH Equine and Canine Massage Therapy ~N~Touch massage therapy is dedicated to helping your best friends, your horses and your dogs through massage. I have trained horses the better part of 30 yrs.

In all my years on this earth, I never dreamed I would be where I' am right now. I have a huge love of animals and I have always hated to see them suffer. Whether it was an injury or suffering at the hands of man. I always knew there was something more to offer our training horses but could never put my finger on it. Then one day I was rubbing down a horse and he felt knotted up in his back and hi

nd quarters. I then started to rub him down with a form of massage. He improved and was very happy after training and waited patiently for a rub down after his work. So at that point I have used this on just about all the horses that I have handled. Did I know what I was really doing...NO. But it made the horses happy and easier to handle. Just this past April 2014 I made my dreams come true and enrolled in the Equissage massage therapy certification course for Equine and /Canine therapy. This is where I met an awesome woman by the name of Mary Schreiber. My mentor and instructor. My life has changed since that first day in Mary's classroom in the basement of her farm house in Roundhill Va. We are friends and I still enjoy out little conversations when time permits! I want to thank her for all the confidence she gave me through my time spent there! I will always keep her dear to my heart! Now as Mary said" I have a dream to massage every horse in the world just once....so that each might be favored with the release from pain that any good massage is capable of bringing to the body" So we will massage on!!!!

Here are 3 major things that you should expect from your equine massage therapist! 🐴

1: For them to be up to date and knowledgeable about majority of things within the equine industry!

Now I’m not expecting every massage therapist to be a walking equine / veterinary text book but if you start explaining your horses medical history and what your horse has had done, preventative treatment wise, and they look like a deer in the headlights, find a more experienced therapist!

2: For them to be able to “read the room” and be able to know when your horse is being overstimulated.

I have been told multiple times by newer clients that their horse wouldn’t stand still for so and so to work on them or they needed to be fed a copious amount of hay to stay distracted during a session and it honestly makes me cringe. If your horse isn’t enjoying themselves and not benefiting both physically and mentally from a massage you are wasting your money!!!

3: To check up on you and your horse!

If your therapist doesn’t care about you and your horse outside of that one hour a month when you’re paying them, move on to the next! I can’t tell you how many times I text clients asking how a vet appointment went, what was the result from a simple blood test, what did the farrier say this month, how did the horse do after a race, and on and on! I care about your horse so much more than you probably think I do.

This testimony is all to familiar. One of the comments made by most of my clients is “ they love having me come massage because I’m that second or third set of eyes for them”. I see my clients on a schedule and there are times when I see things immediately of the horse I’m about to work on.

Sometimes I see that they’re not standing square or they look uncomfortable as soon as I look at them I notice they are at the back of their stall. They’re not engaging with me leading me to believe they don’t feel well and sometimes I can see that they are in pain somewhere by their reactivity. The behavior is subtle sometimes but after the massage, we usually have a discussion about something that should be checked or followed up on by the vet or the Farrier or Saddle fitter and or chiropractic work. .

More often than not there is something to address. Horses like people have bad days too . But when it’s prolonged behavior start taking notes ! This lady didn’t listen to her gut instinct and her horse was talking out loud.
