Employee Spotlight: Jennifer Thornquist 🌟

As the Manager of School-Based Clinics and Community Outreach, Jennifer Thornquist leads efforts to expand access to healthcare beyond traditional clinic walls, ensuring students, families, and community members can connect with the care and resources they need. With a Master of Public Health in Health Education and more than three years of dedicated service at MCHC, Jennifer oversees school-based health clinics, community outreach initiatives, and strategic partnerships that help bring quality healthcare directly into the communities MCHC serves.

Jennifer develops and implements programs that improve access to care, fosters partnerships with schools and community organizations, and champions preventive care and health education efforts. She also oversees grant writing and grant management, helping secure resources that support the sustainability and growth of these vital programs.

Jennifer is especially passionate about health equity and adolescent health. She enjoys using data to identify gaps and barriers in healthcare access and then developing targeted, community-driven solutions that make a meaningful impact.

Having been with MCHC for 3.5 years, Jennifer values the opportunity to connect with individuals where they are and help remove obstacles to care.

"Strong communities start with accessible care. Our role is to remove barriers and meet people where they are."

SCHA-MI would like to thank Congresswoman Dingell for her comments during Energy and Commerce Markup this morning for the SBHC Reauthorization Act. Right now, the only entities receiving federal funding for school-based health centers are those sponsored through FQHCs. Congresswoman Dingell requested Chairman Guthrie to commit to working with HRSA to ensure all sponsoring agencies are eligible to receive federal funding. This is especially important in Michigan, where 71% of sponsoring agencies are not FQHCs. We thank the Congresswoman for her commitment to this issue, and look forward to continuing to work with her as the SBHC Reauthorization Act moves through Congress.

It was a big day for 150 young people in Michigan's child and adolescent health centers today. We visited legislators, the Capitol, made new friends and honored . Gretchen Whitmer with a Legacy Award for her commitment to our health centers! We also honored Jack Bergman with the Legislative Champion award for his enthusiastic support of the many school-based health centers in his district. Two hundred advocates came from the north, south, east and west. It was a memorable day for everyone, full of gratitude for the part each of you play. More pictures to come....
