Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has proclaimed May 17-23, 2026, as EMS Recognition Week in Michigan, honoring the thousands of emergency medical services (EMS) professionals who deliver lifesaving care to residents across the state every day. The Michigan Chiropractic Foundation, partnering with the MAC and the Michigan Association of Ambulance Services, is funding an EMS Chiropractic Care Pilot Program in partnership with Tri-Hospital EMS, the largest ambulance provider in St. Clair County. Once this innovative, first-of-its-kind project is complete, the MAC, MCF, and MAAS believe that the successful program can be repeated, serving first responders across not just the state of Michigan, but eventually nationwide. This morning, MAC Assistant Director Tim Gaughan met with state Senator Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing), who serves as Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Sen. Anthony has consistently voted in favor of pro-chiropractic legislation throughout her time in the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives. Last session, Sen. Anthony voted in favor of our provider anti-discrimination bill modeled on Section 2706(a) of the Affordable Care Act. As a member of the House, she voted our bill that repealed an anti-chiropractic provision in Michigan’s Auto No-Fault statute, as well as our bills that allow chiropractors and MDs/DOs to form a professional corporation or professional limited liability company together. Sen. Anthony represents the 21st Senate District, which includes all of Eaton County and parts of Ingham County.

Earlier today, MAC Assistant Director Tim Gaughan (right) met with state Representative Gina Johnsen (R-Portland) and state Senator Rick Outman (R-Six Lakes) at an event for Rep. Johnsen’s senatorial campaign. Topics of discussion included chiropractic, healthcare freedom, and her campaign. Earlier this year, Rep. Johnsen introduced House Bill 5634, legislation that would ensure that state agencies cannot impose new or expanded requirements on parents seeking vaccine exemptions for their children. Rep. Johnsen currently represents the 78th House District and serves as Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules and as a member of the committees on Veterans and Families, Judiciary, and Natural Resources and Tourism. She is running to succeed Sen. Outman, who is term-limited, representing Michigan Senate District 33, which includes parts of Kent, Ionia, Lake, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties, and all of Montcalm and Newaygo counties.
