While health officials haven’t finalized their count as of early June, the expectation was there were fewer than 1,800 drug deaths for the first time since 2014. It’s significant progress from 3,096 drug deaths in 2021.

As Michigan waits for its statewide picture to take shape, a seven-county region in the Lansing area published its 2025 drug report Wednesday, June 3, offering an early look at the latest trends.

When I served jail time, there were a few things that got me through: family/friend/recovery support, God, and James Patterson books. Out of all the terrible things about jail, I’d say the worst was boredom. Think about going a full day without your phone, social media, Netflix, etc. Now picture that for a year, living only inside your house with no fresh air - with only a deck of cards and some books. That’s about how boring it is. Thankfully, my family sent me a lot of books through the mail and I probably read every book Patterson wrote. Sometimes I have to remind myself where I came from so I don’t take all the blessings I have today for granted. Reading James Patterson books does that for me. I still love reading today, but his books especially mean something to me - even though they are probably the most simple, basic, detective mystery books ever created šŸ˜‚

The medical examiner of Mid-Michigan released its final 2025 drug report.
-It recorded 82 drug related deaths in Ingham County. A lot of poly substance use deaths, with the majority coming from stimulant and fentanyl use.
-There were 14 drug related deaths in Eaton County, and 8 drug related deaths in Clinton County. Below are a couple pictures of the report of Ingham County. The age range is very heartbreaking.

Wherever there’s a lot of addiction, there’s also a lot of recovery. It’s just a matter of what crowd you wanna run with. You can’t have one foot in and one foot out, though. Right now, there is something special going on in the Lansing recovery community. There is so much energy and so many people not only with great ideas, but great ex*****on. This is not a competition, either. When everyone works together, you start to see more people choose recovery.

I remember being up all night on a bender, when 6 or 7 AM came and people were getting ready to go to work while I was taking my last hits, it was the most depressing feeling. You feel like you are living in a different dimension than ā€œnormalā€ people.
