Yesterday MIAAP hosted our annual Advocacy Day in Lansing! With over 80 pediatric residents, med students, and attendings in attendance it was a successful and fun day. We would like to thank Pita Way and Choose Lansing for the donations of gift cards and a gift basket. They made our Lansing scavenger hunt and advocacy jeopardy extra exciting!

MDHHS is advising the public to avoid close contact with chicks and ducklings, especially for children under five and other high-risk groups, and to wash hands thoroughly after any contact with poultry or their environments.

Michigan health officials are reporting an increase in Salmonella infections linked to three multistate outbreaks tied to contact with backyard poultry, particularly baby chicks and ducklings.

An estimated 32 million children in the United States live in homes with fi****ms, nearly 7 million of whom have at least one firearm in the household that's unlocked and loaded.

The new study in JAMA Network Open also finds that more parents leave their guns loaded and unlocked when they have teenagers, despite the fact that su***de risk goes up for this age group.

If you see a tick, whether it bit you or not, you should hold onto it, take a picture, and report it to the health department.
