DAY 36: JOURNAL PROMPT OF THE DAY-
When do I feel safe and emotionally understood?
“Perhaps our misunderstanding of the role of safety is based on an assumption that we think we know what safety means. This assumption needs to be challenged, because there may be an inconsistency between the words we use to describe safety and our bodily feelings of safety.” — Stephen W. Porges
A felt sense of safety is a person's subjective, embodied experience of being safe. “Felt sense” involves being attuned to our inner experiences and connecting these inner happenings to what is happening in our external environment. It can vary widely among individuals based on past experiences, where we hold meaning, and current circumstances.
It often manifests as a state of calmness, relaxation, and openness, allowing a person to express emotions and thoughts without fear of judgment, rejection, or harm. A stronger felt sense of safety is often associated with greater emotional regulation, curiosity, learning, creativity, and social engagement.
