Gateway Hospice Answers…
Choosing hospice is an important decision—and your family deserves clear, honest answers. 💙
At Gateway Hospice Group, we believe families should feel informed, respected, and confident before making any decision about care. Here are answers to some of the questions families frequently ask us:
How is the care team structured?
Each patient receives an individualized plan of care supported by an interdisciplinary team. Depending on the patient’s needs, this may include the hospice physician, registered nurses, hospice aides, social workers, counselors, therapists, and other care professionals. Counseling services may address emotional, coping, grief, and loss needs related to the terminal illness.
Who will be our main point of contact?
A designated Case Manager of the clinical team will help coordinate care, communicate changes, answer questions, and connect you with the appropriate support.
How quickly can care begin after referral?
Once we receive a referral, our team works promptly to review eligibility, speak with the patient and family, coordinate necessary arrangements, and begin care as soon as the same day.
Do you provide care 24/7?
Yes. Hospice support does not end when the office closes. Our on-call team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including ALL major holidays so families have someone to contact when questions or concerns arise.
Where are hospice services provided? Do we have to place our loved one in a facility?
Hospice does not automatically mean moving into a facility. Care can often be provided wherever the patient calls home, including a private residence, assisted living community, nursing facility, or other appropriate care setting.
What areas do you serve?
Gateway Hospice Group is committed to serving patients and families throughout 5 South Texas counties to serve the communities of Benavides, Cotulla, Freer, Hebbronville, Laredo, Zapata, and many more rural communities. Contact our team to confirm availability in your community.
How do you support families and caregivers?
We educate caregivers, explain what changes they may see, help them prepare for what may come next, and remain available to answer questions. Our goal is to help families feel supported rather than alone.
How do you help with medications, medical equipment, and supplies?
Gateway coordinates covered medications, equipment, supplies, and services related to the terminal illness and the patient’s hospice plan of care. Families also receive information about what the hospice benefit covers.
What bereavement support is available for our family?
Grief, loss, emotional, and coping support are an essential part of hospice care for patients and their families. Our spiritual support team, social workers, and counselors are available to patients and families while the patient is on services and up to 13 months after the loss of your loved one.
What makes Gateway Hospice Group different?
