As part of our effort to welcome ALL patients to Gateway, our CEO, Elmo Lopez Jr. extended that invitation to members of the Finance and Wellness Department at United Independent School District this past week.

At Gateway, we take most commercial and private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid and welcome those without coverage as well. Employees and their families were invited to take advantage of our services and short wait times to see a doctor.

Remember: Gateway NEVER turns anyone away for services.

Our mission remains to provide quality healthcare for everyone.

Today, the Gateway Community Health Center family celebrates and says farewell to a leader who has dedicated more than a decade to serving our patients, our staff, and the communities of South Texas.

Dr. Daniel Cabrera III, DNP, MBA, RN, will be moving on from Gateway to begin an exciting new chapter as Chief Executive Officer of Amistad Health in Corpus Christi.

Dr. Cabrera began his career with Gateway in 2015 as Director of Clinical Services and went on to serve as Chief of Clinical Services before being named Chief Operating Officer in 2022. Throughout his tenure, he helped lead and oversee Gateway’s primary care clinics and services, including adult and pediatric care, women’s health, nursing, laboratory, dental, nutrition and other essential programs.

As COO, his leadership helped Gateway expand its clinical footprint and strengthen the care provided to more than 35,000 unique patients across Webb, Zapata and Jim Hogg counties establishing Gateway as the leader in primary healthcare in our region. He played an important role in enhancing clinical protocols, including Gold Accreditation from the Joint Commission for high standards in healthcare quality, oversaw the creation of the Barbara Fasken Healthcare Clinic currently under construction on Mines Rd., established a Women’s Mobile Clinic, created the Heroes In Healthcare Mobile Clinic at Bethany House, and was instrumental in building high-performing healthcare teams just to name a few.

During his time at Gateway, Dr. Cabrera also continued investing in his own professional growth, earning his Doctor of Nursing Practice in Executive Leadership from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, adding to his MBA and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas A&M International University.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, CEO, Elmo Lopez, Jr., employees and the entire Gateway family, thank you, Dr. Cabrera, for more than a decade of dedication to Gateway Community Health Center.
