Gabriel Achemu is a counselor educator-in-training and counseling student intern committed to helping individuals navigate life transitions, emotional challenges, questions of meaning and purpose, and personal growth. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Bowie State University. His interdisciplinary background spans counseling, human services, community engagement, advocacy, and technology, with particular interests in culturally responsive counseling, social justice, trauma, addiction recovery, and the reintegration of returning citizens.
Gabriel brings a unique background in pastoral counseling, philosophy, and theology, shaped by seven years of Catholic seminary formation and approximately two years of theological studies. These experiences developed his interest in the deeper questions people encounter around meaning, identity, spirituality, suffering, relationships, loss, hope, and life transitions.
Gabriel has a particular passion for existential therapy and integrates person-centered, strength-based, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed perspectives into his developing counseling approach. He believes counseling should provide a safe and authentic space where clients can explore not only the challenges they face, but also what gives their lives meaning and purpose. He values meeting clients where they are, honoring their cultural and lived experiences, and working collaboratively to help them recognize their strengths, develop resilience, and pursue meaningful change.
Gabriel is currently practicing under the clinical supervision of Dr. Samantha Knox.
