E-Bikes are becoming increasingly popular among children and teens, but being able to ride a regular bicycle doesn't mean a child is ready to safely handle the higher speeds, weight and power of an e-bike.

Not every child who can ride a bicycle is ready to ride an e-bike. If you are considering an e-bike for your child, be aware that they operate and handle differently than regular bikes.

Is your child ready for an e-bike? Take a peek at the checklist to determine readiness.

Flu shots are now available in both offices!

Call our office to schedule an immunization only visit on the nurse's schedule or flu shots can be given during regular scheduled appointments.

It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to build protection, which is why we encourage families to get vaccinated early in the season.

One common myth is that the flu vaccine can give you the flu. The flu shot cannot cause influenza because it does not contain a live flu virus. Some people may experience mild soreness, fatigue, or a low-grade fever afterward, which are normal signs that the immune system is responding to the vaccine.

Moving into a dorm is an exciting milestone, but many students arrive prepared for classes and forget to prepare for common health needs. Having a basic health kit on hand can make it easier to manage minor illnesses and injuries without scrambling to find supplies when you're not feeling your best.

Before move-in day, take a few minutes to identify the location of the student health center, nearest pharmacy, urgent care, and emergency room. Knowing where to go before you need care can reduce stress when you're sick or injured.

A little preparation now can help students stay healthy, independent, and focused on enjoying their college experience.

It's one of the most common questions parents ask: "When will my baby sleep through the night?"

The answer may not be what you expect. While some babies begin sleeping longer stretches by 4–6 months, many healthy infants continue to wake during the night well into their first year.

Part of the confusion comes from the phrase "sleeping through the night." In pediatrics, this often means sleeping 6–8 hours at a time, not necessarily from bedtime until morning.

Sleep patterns are influenced by age, feeding needs, growth spurts, illness, teething, developmental milestones, and temperament.

Remember, night waking does not mean you're doing anything wrong. Infant sleep is developmental, and there is a wide range of normal.

“My child has a fever today; can they still get their vaccines?" The answer depends on what's causing the fever and how your child is feeling.

In general, children with mild illnesses, such as a runny nose, mild cough, or low-grade fever, can often still safely receive vaccines.

However, if your child has a high fever, appears uncomfortable, or is experiencing a more significant illness, your provider may recommend postponing vaccines until they are feeling better. This isn't because the vaccines are unsafe, but because it can be harder to distinguish vaccine side effects from symptoms of the illness, and the child may simply feel better waiting until they recover.

The good news is that most minor illnesses do not prevent children from staying on schedule with their immunizations.

Not sure if your child's symptoms are severe enough to reschedule? Give our office a call before your appointment!
