Tasting new foods is one way to let your baby explore their taste buds! We never know what they're going to like or dislike until we put it on their high chair. So, bring out the applesauce, mash up some peas, squish some sweet potatoes, and cut up some bananas because sharing nutritious foods is super important! Also, babies love colorful selections, so the more variety on their plate, the more they'll discover!

MYTH: Baby signs will delay speech.

Will teaching your baby simple signs keep them from talking? 🤟
MYTH!
Gestures and simple signs can give little ones another way to communicate while spoken language develops. Pointing, waving, signing and making sounds are all part of learning how communication works.
Before words arrive, your little one may already have LOTS to say. 💛

Development Happens Everywhere! Even in the kitchen.
You don't need a toy aisle to create learning opportunities. 🥄
Give your toddler a bowl, wooden spoon and a few safe kitchen items and suddenly they're practicing fine-motor skills, problem-solving, pretend play and language.
Talk about what they're doing: stir, scoop, pour, in, out, big, little.
Everyday routines can create some pretty BIG learning moments.

Little Tests. BIG Information.
September is Newborn Screening Awareness Month! 👶
Those first screenings can provide important information about a baby's health and help families connect with resources and support when it's needed.
It's a message we believe in every day at TOTS: when we identify a need early, we have an opportunity to support development early.
Little moments. BIG impact.

September is NICU Awareness Month. 💜
For some families, the journey begins with a little extra support. Babies who spend time in the NICU may have their own unique developmental journey—and those tiny milestones deserve BIG celebrations.
At TOTS Early Intervention, we're proud to be part of the village supporting children and families as they grow beyond those first days.
Small milestones tell us BIG things!

Who knew your child's four-legged bestie could make playtime a learning opportunity? 🐾 Practice saying or signing dog, tossing a ball, gentle touches, pointing to ears/nose/paws or taking a supervised walk together. Everyday play = opportunities to communicate, move and connect. Happy National Dog Day!

August is National Immunization Awareness Month. 💙 Well-child visits are a great opportunity to talk with your child’s healthcare provider about immunizations, growth AND developmental milestones. Your pediatric provider and your TOTS team can both be important members of your child’s village.

MYTH: “My toddler always plays by themselves. Should I be worried?” 🧸
Not necessarily! Young children often begin with independent and side-by-side play before cooperative play develops. Those little moments of watching, copying, sharing space and exploring are helping build BIG social skills.
Development doesn't always look the way we expect it to—and that's exactly why milestones matter. 💛
