World Blood Donor Day is a day to honor and thank those who choose to give back to their community by donating blood as a gift for others. It’s a selfless act, as one blood donation can impact the lives of many.

Hospitals rely on blood donations every day. Without these donations, many patients would not receive the care and treatment they need. To better understand the journey of donated blood and the impact it has on our community, we spoke with local blood distribution center Vitalant, about how blood donations help support patient care at Memorial Medical Center and other healthcare facilities across our region.

Through our partnership with Vitalant, donated blood is carefully collected, distributed, and monitored to help ensure a reliable supply is available when patients need it most. Their work plays a vital role in supporting the care we provide and helping save lives throughout our community.

Big congratulations to our 8th Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Program cohort! 🌺🌴

After weeks of hard work, hands-on learning, clinical rotations, and unwavering dedication, these MMC team members have reached an incredible milestone in their healthcare careers. We are proud to celebrate all nine graduates, each of whom successfully passed their CCMA certification exam with outstanding scores.

This year’s cohort marked the occasion with a festive luau-themed graduation, a fun and meaningful way to celebrate their achievements and the journey that brought them here.

“It’s kind of like a mama bird finally kicking her babies out of the nest and watching them fly a little bit,” said Medical Assistant Program Coordinator Susana Lessman-Melton. “Graduation is so special because you get to see them finally relax and say, ‘I did it.’ Their families are here to celebrate with them, and it’s wonderful to see everything they’ve achieved come together after so much hard work in such a short period of time.”

Congratulations to Cohort 8! Your dedication, perseverance, and passion for patient care have brought you to this moment, and we can’t wait to see all that you accomplish next. 🎓💙

With curious minds and youthful energy, more than 40 high school summer interns have hit the ground running in clinical and non-clinical areas throughout our hospital and clinics. We very much look forward to a summer full of learning and growth with the future of our workforce.

We are hosting these talented students through the New Mexico Summer Enrichment Internship Program run by Education at Work. This eight-week program offers paid, real-world work experience in government agencies, nonprofits, and private sector partners. It has been vital in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical work experience for young people in our community, region and state.

Thank you to our hospital leaders and team members who are supporting these invaluable on-the-job learning opportunities and mentoring these students.

We’re so glad you’re here, summer squad! Here's to the best summer ever!

A refreshing treat was on the menu at MMC as we celebrated National Iced Tea Day with our incredible team!

Sometimes it's the simple things, a cold cup of iced tea, a quick break, and a moment shared with coworkers, that make the day a little brighter.

Thank you to all of our team members for everything you do to care for our patients and community. We hope you enjoyed this refreshing treat!

Thank you to The Las Cruces Bulletin for spotlighting the recent Las Cruces Regional Civics Bee, an inaugural event hosted by the The Bridge of Southern New Mexico. The event brought together 20 students from across southern New Mexico who qualified through a national essay competition.

At MMC, we join The Bridge in firmly believing that informed and active citizens make for a strong country, a strong economy, and a strong workforce. In addition to sponsoring this competition, our CEO Dennis Knox proudly served on the judges’ panel.

Fundamentally, the Civics Bee is about more than testing knowledge. It is designed to encourage young people to think critically about their communities, understand their responsibilities as citizens and develop ideas for solving real problems.

The bell rang and hope filled the room – the beautiful sound serving as a reminder of perseverance, support, and the triumph of the human spirit.

We recently witnessed the bell-ringing celebrations of Zsazsa Villarreal Garcia (pictured at left) and Steven James Vantine as they completed their radiation treatments at Memorial Radiation Oncology.

Behind every bell-ringing is a unique story of strength, perseverance, support, and love from family and friends who walk alongside their loved one every step of the way. Thank you for allowing us to share in these meaningful milestones. We wish you and your families continued health, happiness, and many more reasons to celebrate in the days ahead.
