Very sad!

BREAKING: A 75-year-old lifelong Republican in Texas says he now regrets voting for Donald Trump after ICE agents detained his fiancΓ©e in front of him at a Houston airport, calling the president's immigration crackdown a force that is "destroying families."

John Gannon told CBS News he watched eight plainclothes ICE officers surround Yasmin Suarez Reyes, 45, right after the couple passed through security at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on July 24. They were headed to a furniture industry convention in Las Vegas. Instead, Gannon says, officers "swarmed" his fiancΓ©e and "wrestled her off into a car" without explanation, leaving him "in total disbelief."

Suarez Reyes is a Spanish citizen who entered the country legally in October 2023 under the Visa Waiver Program and filed for asylum within her 90 day window, according to her attorney, Anne Kennedy. She has no criminal record, holds a valid work permit and a driver's license, and her asylum case is still pending. None of that mattered to ICE, which told Kennedy that Suarez Reyes' waiver technically expired, making her eligible for deportation anyway.

For nearly two weeks now, a woman who by every account followed the rules has been locked in a detention center in Conroe, Texas, separated from the man she planned to marry.

Gannon, who says he "wouldn't do that again, not after this fiasco," insists he isn't opposed to immigration enforcement aimed at actual criminals. "Go after the criminals," he told CBS. "But leave the moms and pops and the kids alone." It's a distinction the Trump administration doesn't seem interested in making. Suarez Reyes' case comes amid a documented surge in airport arrests of visa holders, fueled by an expanded data sharing pact between ICE and the TSA, first reported by the New York Times. A DHS spokesperson framed the crackdown bluntly, saying the goal is to make sure people "in our country illegally can no longer fly unless it is out of our country to self-deport."

Gannon's story fits a pattern American voters are watching play out again and again: cruelty dressed up as policy, aimed indiscriminately at people who did everything right, tearing apart the very families this administration claims to defend. It's not just a political inconvenience for Trump. It's a warning to every voter who thought this wouldn't touch them.
