Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on 9/11 and honor the courage of the first responders, military members, and everyday Americans who came together in the days that followed.

May we never forget the strength, compassion, and unity that emerged from one of our nation's darkest days.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

We spend so much of our lives working, caring for others, solving problems, and keeping everything moving.

But rest isn't something you have to earn.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is slow down, reconnect with the people you love, and give yourself a chance to recharge.

This Labor Day, take a moment to ask yourself: “What do I need right now?”

Maybe it’s rest. Maybe it’s connection. Maybe it’s a little more time for yourself.

Whatever your answer, remember that taking care of yourself isn't selfish—it helps you show up more fully for the people and relationships that matter most.

Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, and restful Labor Day!

Some wounds take time to heal. Some days you’ll feel strong, and other days you may feel like you’ve taken a step backward.

That’s okay.

Healing isn’t a straight line, and there’s no deadline for feeling better. Give yourself permission to move at your own pace, celebrate the small steps, and remember that progress doesn’t always look the way we expect.

Be patient with yourself. You’re still moving forward.

If you’re struggling to move forward on your own, you don’t have to. Support is available.

Sometimes the space between what happens and how we respond can make all the difference.

When emotions run high, try this simple three-step pause:

Stop. Give yourself a moment before responding

Breathe. Take one slow, deep breath.

Choose. Ask yourself, “Will my response help or hurt this situation?”

You don’t have to respond to every emotion immediately. A pause allows you to respond with intention instead of reacting in the heat of the moment.

Small pause. Better response. Stronger relationships.

Let’s be honest, happy couples aren’t happy because they never argue. They’re happy because they’ve figured out how to navigate the “Who left the kitchen light on?” and “Whose turn is it to do the dishes?” moments without declaring war.

Here are 5 things they tend to do differently:

1. They actually talk. Mind-reading is not a required relationship skill. Say what you need.

2. They laugh together. Life is serious enough. Find reasons to be silly with each other.

3. They say “thank you.” Even for the little things. Especially the little things.

4. They know when to let it go. Not every disagreement needs a winner. Sometimes peace is more important than being right.

5. They make time for each other. Date night doesn’t have to mean a fancy restaurant. Sometimes it’s takeout on the couch after the kids go to bed.

A happy relationship isn't about getting everything right. It's about continuing to choose connection. Even when one of you has very strong opinions about how the dishwasher should be loaded.

What’s one little thing your partner does that always makes you smile?

In many conversations, we’re already thinking about what we’re going to say next before the other person even finishes. But real connection happens when we slow down and truly listen.

Listening to understand means being present, setting aside your response, and trying to see things from the other person’s perspective, even if you don’t agree.

When people feel heard, walls come down, defensiveness softens, and communication becomes more meaningful.

Today, try this: pause, listen fully, and reflect back what you heard before responding. You might be surprised how much it changes the conversation.

If communication has become difficult in your relationships, therapy can help you build skills that create deeper understanding and connection.

Life can feel busy and unpredictable, but small, consistent routines can create a sense of security and connection for the whole family.

Simple habits like sharing a meal together, having a regular bedtime routine, setting aside time to check in with each other, or creating a predictable family rhythm can help reduce stress and strengthen relationships.

Routines aren’t about creating a “perfect” family. They’re about creating moments where everyone feels seen, supported, and connected.

What is one family routine that brings your household a little more peace?

New routines, social changes, and expectations can feel overwhelming, and that’s okay. This time of year isn’t about getting everything perfect right away. It’s about easing back in, staying connected, and creating a sense of safety and support at home.

When kids feel understood, they handle challenges better. And when parents give themselves a little grace, the whole family benefits.

If this transition feels harder than expected, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Support can make all the difference.
